I slept a dreamless night

I slept a dreamless night. But that doesn't mean it wasn't filled with nightmares. I wake up to a metallic taste in mouth, and when I probe my tongue around my mouth I wince at the pain at my cheeks. I must've bitten my cheeks too hard during the night.

Oh the nightmare was nothing - just the horrifying images of Mom and Prim and the redhead. The redhead. Now that my head is clear, I clearly remember when I've seen her. Gale and I were hunting as usual. Suddenly a couple - the redhead and a boy I assume is her lover - ran towards us in a hurry. They wore frightened faces, like they were being chased by someone - the fear we see so very often on animals when we hunt. We could've saved them, but Gale and I hid under a rock-shelter when a hovercraft suddenly appeared and scooped the both of them up, not before killing the boy first. Gale and I witnessed everything but we didn't do anything to help.

After a (not) comfortable bath, I find a set of clothes on my bed, someone probably delivered them when I was in the bath. It is a long-sleeved burgundy tunic, with a pair of tight black trousers and leather shoes. My stomach is growling with hunger right now, and I don't care if anyone is at the dining table yet. It's still pretty early.

Sure enough, when I make it to the dining room, no one is in sight. Luckily I see food on the table - or I'll barge into the kitchen and - I should stop. After confirming that I can serve myself, I fill my plate with all the delicacies I will never get the chance to taste in District 12. Just as I am stuffing food into my mouth in a very unlady-like way, Haymitch and Gale decides to make their appearance.

"Wuwd mourning," I greet them. Gale grins at me while Haymitch gives me a weird look.

"You are going to have your training later, then you'll have a private training session with the Gamemakers where you show them your talent, and they will give you a score that might help you earn some sponsors," Haymitch says once they sit down around the table with their plates full of food like mine before I finished it. "I will coach you first. Decide now whether you want to be coached together or separately."

"Why would you coach us separately?" I ask out of curiosity.

"Say you have a secret talent and you don't want to each other to know," Haymitch wiggles his eyebrows.

Gale and I look at each other. "Guess we don't have secret talents that we don't know," Gale chuckles.

"And why is that?" Haymitch asks.

"We've been hunting together for 4 years - I know her weaknesses like she knows mine." Gale answers with a grin.

Haymitch's mouth hang open. Does he really not know all the venison he ate comes from us? "Oh yeah, right." Well maybe he does know.

"So training together it is," I stand up and wipe my mouth with the back of my hand, which I'm sure will earn me a disapproving look or even a lecture from Effie if she sees this. "Let's go."
