"This way." informed Toriel. Ayano seemingly followed.
While walking, Ayano heard a voice. A child's voice. "Greetings... we will get along together..." A voice that sent shivers down Ayano's back. "Don't worry... I am harmless... I am Chara." Ayano heard the ghostly voice say. "I will guide you throughout your journey in the UNDERGROUND."
Ayano shrugged it off, then followed Toriel, thinking of trusting Chara, regardless of what that stupid flower had said about kill or BE killed. Toriel was harmless, so how can she not trust a ghost?
When she followed Toriel into a purple gateway, she saw purple walls and floors, with red leaves of a plant she's never seen before. She followed Toriel even further, and reached a narrow door with vines at the sides. She stepped through the door.
"Welcome to your new home, innocent one. Allow me to educate you in the operation of the RUINS." Toriel told Ayano. Toriel then stepped on some buttons on the floor which Ayano only then noticed were there, then flipped a switch. "The RUINS are full of puzzles. Ancient fusions between diversions and doorkeys. One must solve them to move from room to room. Please adjust yourself to the sight of them." Ayano toyed with the buttons on the floor a little, then walked with Toriel to the next room.
"To make progress here, you need to trigger several switches." Ayano was the least surprised. This was probably the least weird thing about this place. "Do not worry, I have labelled the ones you have to flip." With that, Toriel walked further into the room. Ayano walked across a bridge, and saw a switch with yellow markings beside. "Please press this switch. -TORIEL" Ayano flipped that switch, and walked across another bridge. "Please press this switch too. -TORIEL" "Toriel is treating me like a child." thought Ayano. "I wonder what happens if I press the other switch..."
"No no no! You want to press the other switch. I even labelled it for you..." Ayano pressed the other switch, and the spike-like thing contracted down. "Splendid! I am proud of you, my little one." Again, Ayano wanted to tell Toriel that she is not a 'little one'. "Let us move to the next room." And off Toriel went. Ayano, seeing the chance, tried to flip that unlabelled switch. "This switch doesn't even work..." Ayano heard Chara say. She STILL couldn't see Chara. Brushing it off, Ayano went to the next room.
"As a human in the UNDERGROUND, monsters may attack you. You will need to be prepared for this situation. However, worry not! The process is simple. When you encounter a monster, you will enter a FIGHT. While you are in a FIGHT, strike up a friendly conversation. Stall for time. I will come and resolve the conflict. Practice talking to the dummy."
As soon as Ayano got close to the Dummy, her SOUL came right out of her chest and the fight began. She can hear Chara whisper, "You encounter the Dummy." Ayano had nothing to talk about. "Uh... hello, there." Ayano got bored, and decided to take out her bloody scissors and sliced the Dummy in half. It then turned to dust.
"Ah, the dummies are not for fighting! They are for talking! We do not want to hurt anybody, do we...? Come now." Ayano, not exactly feeling guilty for the dummy, followed Toriel to the next room.
"There is another puzzle in this room. I wonder if you could solve it...?" Ayano followed Toriel further into the room, and suddenly a frog appeared, and so did Ayano's purple SOUL. Chara whispered, "Froggit attacks you!" Ayano took out her scissors and swung at Froggit. Froggit was badly hurt, but before Ayano could finish him off, Toriel scared Froggit away. "You won! You earned 0 EXP and 0 GOLD though." Chara whispered. Ayano's SOUL went back in her chest safely, and she continued. She saw a sign that she couldn't read, but Chara helped her read it aloud. "The western room is the eastern room's blueprint."
Ayano followed Toriel.
"This is the puzzle, but..." Toriel seemed worried. "Here, take my hand for a moment." Toriel let Ayano grab her hand and guided her across the puzzle. "Puzzles seem a little too dangerous for now." With that, they went to the next room.
"You have done excellently thus far, my child. However, I have a difficult request to ask of you." Toriel hesitated. "I would like you to walk to the end of the room by yourself. Forgive me for this." "Well, that's very simple..." Ayano walked slowly, admiring the purple bricks for walls and the vines clinging to the walls. They're like, 'Notice me Senpai!'
After a minute or so, Ayano saw a white pillar coming into view. She kept walking, and Toriel appeared from the behind pillar.
"Greetings, my child. Do not worry, I did not leave you. I was merely behind this pillar the whole time. Thank you for trusting me. However, there's an important reason for this exercise. To test your independence. I must attend to some business, and you must stay alone for awhile. Please remain here. It's dangerous to explore by yourself. I have an idea. I will give you a CELL PHONE. If you have a need for anything, just call. Be good, alright?" With that, Toriel walked away.
