A calming tranquility Ayano felt as she progressed towards the next area of the Underground. She kept on walking, and saw Sans standing behind what looked like another one of his 'sentry stations'. He seemed to be his usual self again.
"Hey, I really respect what you did back there." He said. "Thanks. Y'know, for not killing my brother."
Ayano nodded, and heard some voices. She glared at Chara. "Stop it."
"What?" Chara asked. "That weird noise is coming from there!" Chara said, pointing to a blue flower. Ayano listened closer. She could barely hear anything louder than a whisper. "All that gives my life validation is explaining the Echo Flower... No one can know..." It said, and kept repeating itself.
"Hey, kid..." Sans said suddenly. "I'm going to Grillby's. Wanna come?" Ayano nodded again, looking back at Snowdin. "Well, if you insist, I'll pry myself away from my work." Sans said, maybe jokingly? She followed Sans, who was walking the opposite way. "Follow me, I know a shortcut." Sans claimed. He reached out to hold Ayano's hand. She held his hand, and suddenly, a blue light blinded her. When she looked in front once more, it was Grillby's.
"Fast shortcut, huh?" Sans asked. "Hi everyone." Everyone greeted Sans as he seated himself. As Ayano did the same, she heard a sound. PFFFFFFFF... Ayano blushed red.
"Whoops, watch where you sit down." Sans said. "Sometimes weirdo's put whoopee cusions on the seats." Then they ordered their food and got into conversation. Nothing in it was interesting to Ayano, until when Sans mentioned "Chara".
Ayano immediately turned her head from her food. "What about Chara?" She asked.
Sans looked like he regretted everything. "Forget it, kid. " He said.
Sans kept refusing as Ayano kept pushing. Until, Sans finally gave in.
"So, you know this Chara kid?"
Ayano looked at Chara, which made a "Keep quiet" gesture, and said, "Yeah..." Chara felt like she was being betrayed. "But I've only read about her in stories so I don't really KNOW know her..." The ghost felt a lot calmer as Ayano covered it up. "Ayano is DAMN good at lying, I wonder if she does it normally..."
Sans needed to tell someone. His voice dropped into a whisper. "So, do you know about timelines?" He started, looking around to see whether anyone was eavesdropping on the conversation. Ayano looked at Chara again, who's face was making the "Tell the truth" kinda look. "Yeah. I've read it in my Psychology textbook. Each decision we make, each movement... it makes another timeline, or universe, doesn't it? Like we ordered burgers this time. In an alternate timeline, we might've gone with your "fries". Or, there might be a timeline where you killed me. Heck, there might be a timeline where I didn't even fall down here." Ayano went on, until the last one. The moment she knew... she screwed up. "Oh no. That was exactly what happened in other timelines as Chara told me. That means... Sans might've... He would say..." Both the schoolgirl and the ghost looked at Sans, his eyes showing some soulless uneasiness.
"There are timelines where you didn't fall down here. Timelines like... the last one... and the hundreds before that." Sans said. "Wanna take a look at some?"
Ayano didn't know what to do. Hesitantly, she said yes.
"Take my hand." Sans said. Ayano held onto it, and she was blinded by the same blue light again. As she adjusted herself to Snowdin again, in Grillby's, Sans sat next to another human, a small child, similar to Chara, but younger. She looked next to her, and saw Sans, maybe ghost-like. When she looked at her hand, it was semi-transparent too.
"This is one, ONE, of the Pacifist timelines. The one next to me then was... Frisk." Sans said.
"Want some ketchup?" Sans asked.
"Yes!!" Frisk said excitedly. As he handed the little girl the ketchup, Sans was snickering. Frisk soon knew why. As soon as she tipped the bottle, the cap fell out, leaving a ridiculous amount of ketchup on the fries she ordered. She shot Sans a sarcastic look. "Very funny, Sans. One of your best pranks ever."
"Eh, forgedabouddit. Here, have mine, I'm not really hungry anyway." Although Sans offered it, he saw the young kid nomming on her fries, getting her hands soaked with ketchup. Sans looked surprised.
"Bad to waste food, isn't it? I ordered it anyway, I have to eat it."
This was the best timeline ever.
"Right?" Sans asked Ayano.
"You said ONE of her pacifist timelines. What about the others?"
"Ever since I found out she could reset... I've been even more depressed than I've ever been. The others weren't as enjoyable as this one."
"Oh... so..."
"Wanna look at another one?"
"Sure."
Another flashing blue light, and another timeline.
Pfffffff.........
"Heh, that old whoopee-cushion-in-the-hand trick. It's ALWAYS funny." Sans said. Frisk still remained devoid of any emotion. Kinda like Ayano before she met Senpai. "Uh... that's your queue to laugh... or even show any emotion at all? Nevermind."
A sudden flash, and in another part of the same timeline.
"If you don't stop acting like you do now... you're gonna have a bad time." Sans teleported away. Frisk, still devoid of any emotion, walked towards Snowdin Town.
Another flash, still in the same timeline. This time, Frisk looked so much like Chara, even some flashes of Chara was visible.
"Is it possible for someone to change? For someone to become a good person... if they wanted to? Let me ask you another question. DO YOU WANNA HAVE A BAD TIME?"
Sans fought with all his might, and yet, Frisk seemed to be able to dodge every attack. It wasn't the same timeline. It was one, after countless resets. After countless deaths. Sans knew that.
"If you don't stop, I'm gonna have no choice but to use my SPECIAL ATTACK. Yeah. Sound familiar? If you don't wanna see it, this would be a good time to die."
"Here goes nothing..." Sans did nothing. "Yeah. That's my special attack. Absolutely nothing. Knowing you can reset, I'll die if I keep going. So, I'll NEVER allow you to do your turn, even if I have to stand here for all eternity."
They did nothing. Until 10 minutes, Sans fell asleep. Frisk, moving the invisible box forward, finally slashing the skeleton in half.
"Uh... I'm going to Grillby's. Hey Papyrus... you want anything?" With that, Sans turned into dust.
Ayano turned to "Current" Sans. All the way on the genocide route, he wasn't looking. He didn't even open his eye sockets.
"Welp let's go now this was a wonderful trip now take my hand now please." Sans said in one breath. With a blinding blue flash again, they were back sitting in Grillby's.
Ayano, dumbfounded, didn't know what to say.
"I... think I should get going... shouldn't I? I mean, I'm sorry about all that, but I REALLY needa get going. Papyrus may be waiting for me." Ayano lied.
"Welp, looks like we have to call it a day. Wait." Sans said. Everything in the place stopped, in place, even Grillby's fire wasn't moving. It was as if... Sans stopped time? "Have you heard of a talking flower?"
Ayano started. Sans knew about Flowey? "Yeah." Ayano decided to tell Sans.
"So you know all about it. The Echo Flower." What. "They're all over the marsh. Say something into them, and they'll repeat it over and over... What about it? Well, Papyrus told me something interesting the other day. Sometimes, when no one is around, a flower appears and whispers things to him. Flattery, advice, encouragement.. predictions. Weird, huh? Someone must be using an echo flower to play a trick on him. Keep an eye out, okay? Thanks." Everything went back to normal again, and Sans walked out, almost turned the doorknob... "Well, that was a long break. And also, can you help pay the bill? I'm flat broke. It's just 10000G."
"What?! I'm sorry Sans, I'm not very rich." Ayano said sarcastically, getting the mood set in again.
"Just kidding. Grillby, put it on my tab." Sans walked out.
Ayano walked out of the place, and found that she was in Snowdin again.
"What. Why. When. How." She was so confused.
"Hahaha..." A laugh from behind. When Ayano turned around, no one was behind. But she swore she caught a glimpse on Flowey, but how?
Chara snapped her out of her worry.
"What happened? Where did you guys go? How did that all happen? Tell me EVERYTHING." Chara pushed as they walked past Papyrus.
"HELLO, HUMAN!" He said in his abnormally loud voice. It scared the living daylights out of the duo.
"Hey, Pap!" Ayano said without realizing. To be honest, the two skeletons were pretty likeable, too.
"Well? Tell me NOW!!" Chara said like a young schoolgirl high on buttercups. Wait, what.
So Ayano told the ghost what Sans showed her. Chara's smile faded little by little into a horrified look. "AHH!! I'M SO SORRY THAT I MADE FRISK DO THAT! I WAS JUST SO HUNGRY FOR POWER, SO CONSUMED BY GREED..." Chara screamed, as loud as Papyrus, making the young schoolgirl jump in fright.
"Chill Chara, calm DOWN!" Ayano slashed Chara with her scissors. Being a ghost, it didn't harm her, but it did make her snap out of the mental breakdown. "Let's just enjoy the calming tranquility, okay?"
She saw the box near a big waterfall, and proceeded to exchange items. "Oh no look at my bag." Chara took a peep at her bag. It consisted of school homework, doodled drawings and three cinnamon bunnies. "How am I supposed to last the entire underground with just three cinnamon bunnies?" Chara disappeared. "CHARA- ugh, whatever."
After a while, Chara reappeared, taking two cinnamon bunnies with her.
"Where did you get that from?"
"I bought it."
"What? I didn't know you had the money."
"Nah, I used yours."
"Wait wha-" Ayano checked her bag. There was 8G left inside. "CHARA!"
"What? You said you needed food. And..." Chara added. "Get more gold. You're more broke than Sans."
"What do you mean?"
"Don't run away from fights. In Snowdin you ran away from at least 10 monsters."
Ayano crossed the waterfall avoiding the rocks falling from above.
In the next area, she saw seaweeds. "HIDE!" Chara warned, pushing Ayano into them.
They saw Papyrus walking towards someone who wore heavy armor with a look of guilt.
"H... HI, UNDYNE! I'M HERE WITH MY DAILY REPORT... UHH... REGARDING THAT HUMAN I CALLED YOU ABOUT EARLIER..." The so-called Undyne asked him something, but it was too soft to be heard. "HUH? DID I FIGHT HER? Y-YES! OF COURSE I DID! I FOUGHT THEM VALIANTLY!" Undyne said something again. "WHAT? DID I CAPTURE HER...? W-W-WELL... NO. I TRIED VERY HARD, UNDYNE, BUT IN THE END... I FAILED." Undyne said something again. "W-WHAT? YOU'RE GONNA TAKE THE HUMAN'S SOUL YOURSELF? BUT UNDYNE, YOU DON'T HAVE TO DESTROY THEM! YOU SEE..." Papyrus explained. "YOU SEE..." Undyne looked at him in a threatening manner. "...I UNDERSTAND. I'LL HELP YOU IN ANY WAY I CAN." Papyrus walked away.
"Chara! Get off me!" Ayano said in an accidentally-too-loud voice. Undyne looked towards them. The gleaming eyes of the royal guard looked threateningly into Ayano's. She held a magic spear and aimed it towards Ayano, and yet... she retracted it, and disappeared into the shadows.
Ayano walked out of the bushes, with Chara following her. But wait... she saw a sillhouette of something. Huh, it was just Monster Kid.
"Yo, did you see the way she was staring at you? That was AWESOME! I'm SOOOO jealous!" Monster Kid said. "What'd you do to get her attention? C'mon! Let's watch her beat up some bad guys!" The monster ran away; and fell; and got up.
