Chapter 7 | A Punny Friend

"Huh...? Where am I...? Chara? Where did I end up? Where is this?" Ayano looked around, seeing the mood of her surroundings creepy and haunting. Chara was nowhere to be found. Plus, it was so cold... Ayano rubbed her hands together to stay warm, but in the end, it was no use.
But regardless... Ayano kept walking forwards.
As she walked, she swore she felt someone stalking her. By the way monsters want her SOUL to be free, she tried not to think about it, but the monster behind, might want to murder her... "WHO GOES THERE?!" Ayano heard a snap of a hard twig, and turned around. No one. She also swore she heard footsteps for a while, turned around, but... no one.
She walked until she saw a bridge. She stopped, hearing the same footsteps from earlier. It stopped right behind her.
"H u m a n . D o n ' t y o u k n o w h o w t o g r e e t a n e w p a l ?" Ayano didn't know what to expect. This was weird. "T u r n a r o u n d a n d s h a k e m y h a n d."
Ayano didn't know what to expect. Regardless, she shook their hand, and the sound of a whoopee cushion filled the air.
"Heheh... the old whoopee-cushion-in-the-hand trick. It's ALWAYS funny." A skeleton in a hoodie said. Ayano giggled. "Anyways, you're a human right?" Ayano nodded. "That's hilarious. I'm Sans. Sans the Skeleton. I'm actually supposed to be on watch for humans right now. But... y'know... I don't really care about capturing anybody." Ayano breathed a sigh of relief. "This is one lazy skeleton", Ayano thought. "Now my brother, Papyrus, he's a human-hunting FANATIC. Hey, actually, I think that's him over there." Sans pointed at the tall to-far-to-see-in-detail figure in the distance. "I have an idea. Go through this gate thingy. Yeah, go right through. My bro made the bars too wide to stop anyone."
They went through, to the next room. "Quick, behind that lamp." The lamp was way too small to hide Ayano. "Uh... maybe behind that sentry station...?" Ayano hid underneath the sentry station Sans had pointed out. It had bottles of ketchup, mustard and relish there. The other skeleton came up.
"Sup, bro?" Sans asked the other skeleton called Papyrus.
"YOU KNOW WHAT'S 'SUP', BROTHER! IT'S BEEN EIGHT DAYS AND YOU STILL HAVEN'T... RECALIBRATED. YOUR. PUZZLES! YOU JUST HANG AROUND OUTSIDE YOUR STATION! WHAT ARE YOU EVEN DOING?!?"
"Staring at the sentry station. There's something really cool behind there. Do you wanna have a look?" Well, you ask a stupid question you get a stupid answer.
"NO!! I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THAT!!" The taller skeleton was having a mini tantrum. "WHAT IF A HUMAN COMES THROUGH HERE?!" Ayano snickered. "I WANT TO BE READY!!! I WILL BE THE ONE! I MUST BE THE ONE! I WILL CAPTURE A HUMAN! THEN, I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS... WILL GET ALL THE THINGS I UTTERLY DESERVE! RESPECT... RECOGNITION... I WILL FINALLY BE ABLE TO JOIN THE ROYAL GUARD! PEOPLE WILL ASK, TO, BE MY, 'FRIEND'??? I WILL BATHE IN A SHOWER OF KISSES EVERY MORNING!"
"Hmm... maybe the sentry station will help you."
"SANS! YOU ARE NOT HELPING! YOU LAZYBONES! ALL YOU DO IS SIT AND BOONDOGGLE! YOU GET LAZIER AND LAZIER EVERYDAY!"
"Hey. Take it easy. I got a ton of work done today. A skele-ton." *baa-dum-tss*
"SANS!"
" 'Cmon. You're smiling."
"I AM AND I HATE IT! SIGH... WHY DOES SOMEONE AS GREAT AS ME HAVE TO DO SO MUCH JUST TO GET SOME RECOGNITION...?"
"Wow, it seems you're really working yourself... down to the bone." *baa-dum-tss*
"UGH!! I WILL ATTEND TO MY PUZZLES... AS FOR YOUR WORK? PUT A LITTLE MORE 'BACKBONE' INTO IT! NYEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE!!!" Papyrus walked away, but before that... "HEH!"
"Ok, you can come out now." Ayano obeyed.
Ayano wanted to return to the RUINS now. Could this day get stranger?!
"Actually, hey..." Sans suddenly said. "Hate to bother ya, but can you do me a favor? I was thinking, my brother's been kind of down lately... he's never seen a human before. And seeing you might just make his day. Don't worry, he's not dangerous. Even if he tries to be. Thanks a million. I'll be up ahead."
Ayano decided to do that, so she turned the other way, and walked to the point where Sans and Papyrus presumably are.
