I was in my study room, researching the Island of Animals. My Great Uncle went missing trying to find it but luckily he had made copies of his notes. The sunlight came through the window but the light landed on an ancient book of maps.
I wonder?
I walked to the shelf and grabbed the book, it was really heavy. It took all my strength to carry the nearly 2 ton book. I blew the dust off, which just right blew back in my face because of the open window, letting the wind in. I ran and closed the window and open the door instead. I begin to read but someone called out to me.
Can I read in peace! I thought angrily.
"Hello, Kate?" A friend of mine called out, a young boy with brown hair came in. He was wearing blue jeans (dirty), a yellow shirt, and a plain hat. His dark brown eyes seemed curious. "Are you busy?"
"No." I lied because he usually helps me with my research.
"So, instead of driving, you choose studying?" Mason asked. Mason is 16 and a driver.
Mason walked over to the table, surprisingly the table didn't collapse under the book's weight. We clear most of the dust and mildew.
"Wow, look at the art work." Mason said, pointing out the fancy writing and detail.
The book had purple, blue and yellow scribbles. Then I noticed the title was in Latin, an old language that a few know. I uncovered more dust from the light brown book and it had a translation underneath the title.
"Do you know how to speak latin?" I asked Mason. The book says "The balance" and the rest seemed to be ripped off.
"Its pronounce "Statera" but I don't know the rest." He touched the ripped area. I open the book.
"Okay, the writing seems to go back and forth from Latin to English." I thought for moment, I want to my bag and pulled my Uncle's notes and a Latin to English dictionary. "In my Uncle's notes, he says 'The key to find the Island is from an old lullaby.'"
Mason turned the pages as I flipped through the notes. We both found a page at the same time.
"Found it, the lullaby goes like this," I paused as I focus on the lyrics while Mason eyeballs the little journal. "An Island due to the South, In the coldest region around, hidden by fog and protected by an Outlaw." I frowned. "An Outlaw? How?"
"Legend goes it's a Dragon." Mason replied with a sigh."Legend goes it's a Dragon." Mason replied with a sigh.
I like tales about Dragons but I don't believe in fairy tales and Mason knows this a little too well. "That can't be unless they mean Komodo?" I asked, a little skeptic about his answered.
"Okay, I have no idea but I found the Island. Remember Pangea?"
"Yay, the super land mass."
"Well, here is the map of it and the very last split you can see two land masses heading South." He explained. I looked at him. "Southeast, closer to the South Pole." I quickly ran over where he was and not so friendly shoved him to the left.
That's the Island!" I jumped up and down, my blonde hair was in my eyes which made me stop. I hugged him. "I have to tell my mom and see if I can find a way to the Island. You'll come with?" I asked. He smiled and said,
"Of course."
