The day was hot, muggy and the clouds cover the sun, all day. I knew it was monsoon season but this one might be the worst one yet. If it rains too much then during the dry season, we will have a bad drought. Leona told us that me, Regina, the Gems and the Triplets are safer here until we master our gifts and by the looks of it we're never leaving.
I don't understand, how to be a Giffin if i'm the only unus! Regina having trouble mastering any animal outside of the feline family. The Gems are making their teachers mad because Adamas can't control lighting, Crystallo is doing well when she is not messing with the teacher and Carbunculus says that all (most) teachers are against us. Also coming from Adamas, their teacher Shifter Paws, a Nile Croc, almost bit Carbunculus's paw right off. A rival is going after Mel, so Catellus and Feles went after him.
Today, we all share a common learning day. We have one class per day but the class lasts most of the day.
The docens is about the "Species" and we're learning about the Griffins. Our teacher is Shifter Tenebrae, a mink, and he's filling in for Dragon Ver because he went missing a few days ago. Shifter Tenebrae is fairly nice but Regina finds that strange.
Stranger yet, we haven't heard anything from Mother or Navy since we left for Pardus. Bamboo and Cursor came to visit but both said they haven't heard from the regina (well Bamboo said Rosy, Cursor said regina). Cursor said she has been noticing more fights between tribes, even if they been friends for years.
We were outside waiting for Tenebrae, he's been late for 3 days in a row. Wired? No one looks happy, most actually like Ver.
"Can't we just go?" Crystallo asked.
"Yeah!" Catellus chimed in but a little black rodent glared at him.
They say the older you are, the more you are respected.
"Father said he'll come before the rains come and that had past!" Feles cried. Someone turned to glare at her and she glared right back. The Wild turned around and watch the teacher.
Aurora stayed close to me because of being this long without Cursor. Cursor is allowed to visited Pardus anytime, even before Mother announced that Cursor is the new hominum Keeper meaning she is tribe leader.
"Rex," Regina said, no one glared at her because she might be the only true Heir. "Their correct, we should go and leave. I'm worried for Mother."
"Yeah, it's been spring!" Adamas yelled.
Tenebrae walked in the circle of trees that stand for a classroom, apparently.
"Okay but after the docens." I told everyone quietly. "I want to learn a little more about my genus." I growled softly.
We then form a column of are age, so the Gems and the Triplets sat in front of us.
Tenebrae started the lectio. His voice sounded false. "There are many species of Griffin, with each animal besides reptiles, will gain the power to fly from a bird." He nodded towards me, so I turned into a Griffin. "Rex is a Tigffin or Golden Griffin because it's a Tiger and a Golden Eagle." I rolled my eyes as he frowns.
"Rex," I met his eyes. "Anything you like to share?" Tenebrae says, knowing I was only half listening.
I watched Tenebrae closer and his golden eyes shimmered black. Father said a Shifter of any kind can't change his eyes. Regina's right! Something's up and I want to know. Now!
I stood up and glared at him, the Mink smiled, knowing i'm onto him.
Regina nudged me. "Rex, look." Regina tilted her head skyward and I noticed that a group of birds, flying to the North.
That's odd, it's not time for any type of migration.
Carbunculus and Mel sense something and that made Adamas, Crystallo, Catellus and Feles surrounded them. All were frightened and I was curious. Aurora turned into a brown Phoenix, meaning fear. Then I noticed Regina was whimpering but it quickly turned into a shrieking roar. Regina started to shake.
"Regina!" I shoved Aurora out of the way. I screamed her name over and over. Once she fell, Tenebrae flew over and smiled. I looked at him in disgust.
"I knew she was an Angel." He laughed. The Mink turned into a mutant and drew out one claw. He place the claws on the back of her neck and I tackle Tenebrae to the ground.
"Rex," He said, amused. "You don't know what I am, Griffin." With that he vanished under my claws and I saw him flying away.\
The creatures, the birds are his genus, I soon realized as he flew by them.
The invasion has begin.
