Chapter Thirteen

* * *

I just arrived to form on Monday morning. To my surprise we hadn't gone in yet, as usually Mr Urlawyer lets us go in pretty early. I wasn't even particularly early today. I assumed that they had a meeting, which was normal on Monday mornings. I looked around but I couldn't see Olly anywhere. He probably wasn't here yet, so I just stood waiting against the wall. Olly finally arrived at 8:27 and stood next to me.

"Hey" I said still leant against the wall.

"Hi" he replied.

"Why you so late today? Normally you're here way before me" he shrugged his shoulders while making a 'not sure' noise.

"Just woke up later"

As the clock struck 8:30, all the teachers in this block walked through the doors, aware that their meeting had overrun. I watching as Mr Urlawyer walked in behind the rest of the teachers. He got his room key out and unlocked the door.

Form went as usual, although Olly didn't really talk much to me, but I do sit on the opposite side of the classroom. I have Mr Schmidt today, but I don't know if I can control myself, since after that night. When I was with him something about it felt safe, even though I was really nervous. I feel like I can talk to him like I would with Maria or Alyssa. The only problem is that he's my teacher.

"What lesson have we got next?" Maria asked while we walked.

"French" I replied, feeling my heartbeat rise a little.

"Oooo...with Mr Schmidt" Alyssa said intriguingly.

"Yes" I replied with, trying not to think about him because I knew that if I did I would turn red. I could feel the rush inside of me so I looked down towards the ground as I opened the doors to the languages corridor.

I didn't want to raise my head as I knew he would be standing there. I let Alyssa walk first and then I heard him say "Hello, girls"

That voice always got to me. My heart was racing as I followed Alyssa into the classroom, with Maria behind. I lifted my head up and went to sit in my original seat; next to Maria.

Mr Schmidt walked back into the classroom, closing the door behind him as the last student walked in. He made his way to the front of the classroom and then said "Matt and Marc, can you hand out the books? When you get your book copy down the date and title on the board"

Carter Schmidt's Point of View

I sat down in my chair and froze the board as I pretended to do something else on my computer, whilst everyone copied down the date and title. But in reality I wasn't actually doing anything. I just kept on repeating how good it felt to talk to someone like Octavia. Since moving on from university, I haven't really had anyone else to talk to; all of my friends that I used to be close to all have moved on. Some of them are even married with children now. I know I'm still pretty young but the idea of having a family does seem nice. The noise in the classroom had raised, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"I guess that means you've all finished now then" I said standing up from my chair.

"No, hang on" someone said whilst violently scribbling down the date and title. I waited a moment until they picked their pen up from the paper and then unfroze the board.

"As you can probably guess from the title, we're going to be looking at the imperfect tense. Has anyone come across this before?" I looked around the room and everyone looked confused. Just as I was about to say something, Matt rose his hand up. "Yes" I replied with looking at him.

"Is it when you say you used to do something?" he said in a question form. Matt tends to answer quite a lot of the questions in class. I wonder if he does that in all of his classes.

"Yes it is, kind of" I replied. "In a way you could say it was when you used to do something"

The lesson ended and I watched as everyone got their bags, ready to head out of the door. I watched Octavia as she put her book in her backpack and got ready to head out of the door. I couldn't help but want to stop her to talk to her, but I had nothing to talk to her about, so it'd seem weird. I kept myself together as everyone left the room, leaving me alone. I didn't have a class next, so I think that I'll do some lesson planning.

Octavia's Point of View

I walked out of the classroom, feeling a little down in the sense that I had to leave Mr Schmidt. Ever since I met him, he has been the nicest person I've known, then again for all I know he could be a psychopath - not very likely. I can't believe that it's also getting so close to Christmas; this year has gone pretty quick.
