The first few days after the breakup were very difficult if I'm honest. Seeing him in the corridors and just watching him knowing that I'm there, but refusing to acknowledge my existence. I remembered I still had his Valentines present in my schoolbag and seeing as I couldn't face him let alone even look at him for longer than five seconds without getting a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach, I gave it to Alice to give to him. Knowing Alice, I knew deep down that she would say some harsh things to him but that was a risk I was willing to take in order to show I didn't really need him because I had other people who cared more than he ever did.
I never found out what Alice said to him exactly because he never told me, but from what Alice told me it went something along the lines of,
"Sebastian." she yelled at him
He turned around with a look of anxiousness and worry.
"Yeh?" he said
She thrust the little box with a bottle of cologne in it at him.
"What's this?" he asked.
"What do you fucking think it is? Its Alison's present for you."
"What? I can't take thi-"
"Well you're gonna have to. You broke her, this is your punishment." she walked off and left him there.
Very dramatic for thirteen year olds, I know but it was a big deal then okay! He came up to me at lunch and tried to give it back to me.
"Hey..Aly?" he came up behind me with the box in his hand by his side.
"What do you want now?" I snapped as I turned around
"I can't take this.."
"Take what?"
"This.." he held up the box
"Well you're gonna have to." I started to turn but he started talking again
"No really, I feel too guilty"
"Well I'm not taking it! You gave me something, the least I can do is pay you back for it. Go now?"
He looked at me and turned away and walked down the corridor. As I turned around I felt my eyes well up with tears, I still really liked him. Sarah ran down the corridor after him and fuck, she was pissed, she had become a real hardass in the transition into first year.
"Hey, prick!" she shouted.
He turned around.
"You go near Aly again and I swear, look at her, talk to her, breath around her or even think about her ever again. I will fucking murder you, yeah? You're absolute scum, you know that?"
His eyes filled with tears and he ran, he just ran. I had never seen a lad so upset before. My last class that day was French and after this guy that I was sort of friends with but didn't know well enough to converse with alone came up to me and started talking to him.
"Hey, Alison! What happened with you and Sebastian?" He asked consolingly
"I don't even know. Ask him" I answered
"Yeah, from what I heard it was pretty bad what he did. You alright?"
"I'm grand now, thanks for asking."
"No problem, come talk to me after okay?"
I nodded. I came out into the front hall and he was there, I handed him my phone and told him to read the texts. When he finished reading he handed it back and all he said was "Wow. What a prick". The advice he gave me actually did help me though, he walked me out to the front gate because he didn't have to go home and he was going to town instead so in that time I told him everything.
"Yeah, hes a right dickhead." he said reassuringly
"I thought you were friends with him?" I said sort of condescendingly for him only trying to help.
"Well, I mean he's a good friend and yeah he's sound, but he just doesn't know how to treat girls."
"Yeah I can see that. I'm just so pissed"
"Well all I can say is the best thing you can do now is get over him, I guarantee one hundred percent that you'll find someone so much better than him and you'll appreciate it so much more."
And that's exactly what I did. This guys name was Alex. I'll be honest, when he gave me that advice I thought he was hinting at himself and I felt bad because he just an average teenage boy, nothing I'd go crazy for. But nevertheless, he was smart and gave good advice, so he instantly grew on me.
Eventually he headed towards town and I trotted up to my friends who were a little bit infront of us.
"Who was that?" Kelly asked
I looked back at him "Just a friend."
