During that summer I got to meet a lot of new people. See Alice, Sarah and all those people are really quite popular and I'm sort of in the middle. So I had lots of opportunities to make new friends but did I take them? Nope - I spent the Summer with Alex.
Now don't get me wrong, I didn't completely abandon my other friends I just really didn't go out with them as much as I would've liked to. I did go out to them sometimes though but about ninety-eight percent of that Summer was spent in Alisha's house because her and Alex are neighbours - Yanno yourself.
It all started off with Alice's birthday, about fifteen of us went out to this big adventure centre thingie. You know - those things with the inflatable obstacle courses out in the middle of the sea and the only way to get out to is by boat? Yeah one of those.
It was great to be honest, I was relieved that they had life jackets because I can't swim. We ate food after and then we went out. When we went out, I was introduced to ALL of the popular people that my friends were friends with. There was Ger who was older than all of us, Michael who even though was only fifteen had the facial hair of a forty year old man, Ger's brother Louis, Gav who was like a big buff teddy bear - he stood out to me, he was absolutely beautiful. But I had to fuck that idea down the drain because he was well out of my league and while he was getting well over five hundred likes on his Facebook profile pictures, I was on seventy eight. Dream big, Aly.
We were out until about half eleven and before we all had to go, Ger and Gav ran around seeing who could hug the most people before we had to leave. I was buzzing when I got hugged by all of them even though it was completely meaningless, but I was sort of a lost cause around them so I kind of felt accepted. Everyday after that I went out to them up until a day when Alex asked me to go out to him. I did.
I got to Alisha's house and I told Alex and her all about what I was up to the last few weeks. Alisha didn't really mind and kept listening. Alex, he got really weird when I mentioned Gav. I was telling Alisha about him to which he responded,
"Gavin? Seriously?"
"Yeh, what about him?"
"You know he used to be really fat and ugly right?"
"No, but he isn't now is he."
"Ugh, he such a dickhead though, like of all people you decide to like him."
"I barely know him, I just said I thought he was goodlooking, what's the big deal?"
"Nothing."
From then on something in him changed, every single guy I ever said I thought was remotely attractive he'd get all defensive and pissy with me, which for someone who made his lack of feelings for me very clear, was sort of odd.
One day I was I was with Alex and Alice rang me. I put her on speaker because I didn't wanna have an overly secret conversation where I'd have to get up and walk away, so I stayed where I was.
"Hello?"
"Aly?"
"Yeah?"
"Well, do you want to come up the country with us and swim in the pond in the complex?"
"Who's going?"
"Everyone, me, Sarah, Kelly, Ger, Louis, Ciaran.. Gav's going too."
Alex looked at me with a really judgemental look as if to say 'go-ahead-and-go-with-them-I-dare-you'. I was silent for a minute.
"Aly?"
"Yah?"
"Are you coming or not?"
"Ehm..." I see Alex is still looking at me "...Ehh, I think i'll pass on that today, maybe another day."
"Oh okay, no bother." The call ended.
Turns out Alice and all them had a great day and I was stuck inside with Alex watching some shitty movie, did I realise my mistake? No. Of course I didn't, because I liked this lad so much that I let everything I did revolve around him and he didn't even care enough to notice. Alex also got really thick with me when I went out to euro day (that's for the last day the rides are up at the beach, everything is only one euro to get on) with Sebastian and that he had payed for everything I went on and apparently we flirted a lot that day but I only saw it as friendly banter.
To be completely honest, the amount of time I spent with Alex and Alisha that Summer was astounding. See, my initial plan was to balance out the time I spent with both groups of friends so like I'd spend one week with Sarah and Alice and then the next week with Alex and Alisha. Buut that's not exactly how it went, it was more like - spending one week with Sarah and Alice and the rest of the fucking Summer with Alex and Alisha.
Now don't get me wrong, both groups of friends that I have are lovely people, well some of them were lovely people, but I'll explain that later...
