Chapter 8: His Story

Listen to the song In My Blood by Shawn Mendes.
*****

I walked to my locker and opened it only to find a rose, I've been getting these roses for the past whole week with notes saying, 'I'm sorry' .

What made him think I was going to forgive him so easily.

He won't stop irritating me in class sending me pouts and sorry messages on the phone.

But today's rose was different, it was a rose on the verge of death, it was half withered with just one petal left. It had a note:

My life has been a hard one, all my friends have left me and gone(the rest of the fallen petals) but if I loose you  (that last petal) I'm just going to be a rose with only a stem, so please remain my petal. Cause even one petal can make a difference. I really am sorry.

P.S still have no clue how to use metaphors.

James...

This actually made me reconsider what I had said, I mean it was so sweet and so unlikely for James to do.

"You know you should have forgiven him by now" Harvey whispered to me.

"I wish I could. But what he did was wrong" I said.

"You can't expect more than that from him, he does this cause it's just in his blood" I stared at Harvey .

"What do you mean in his blood?" I asked. Harvey panicked and started stuttering, "B-blood d-did I say that? Ohh I meant you know he's a bad boy, a player".

Harvey was hiding something from me. Something about James that I didn't know.

"Harv, how do you know James?" I asked slowly.

"Ohh y-y-you know c-clubs" he said acting completely weird.

"Harvey Arnold Russo I'm going to ask you again and this time I want the truth" I said sternly.

"Okay okay but come somewhere safer where no one can hear us " he said yanking me into the janitor's closet.

"Ohh the janitor's closet cliché. Isn't this where people make out?" I asked disgusted.

"I don't know, but I do know that I make out with chicks here" he said cooly. I just widened my eyes. "No Ari I'm not going to ever make out with you, that would make things weird " he said, as I get a releif .

"Okay now tell me the truth" I asked.

"Shhh... Keep it down" he said looking around the closet as if trying to make sure no one was spying on him.

"God Harvey just get to the point, it's a janitors closet there's no one else here." I whispered angrily.

"Okay okay," he said sighing "you see James is - was how do I say this"

"Harv just clam down and tell me the truth, before we're both late to class." I whispered.

"James was a drug dealer" he said it took me by complete shock "what? " I whisper shouted.

"Yes he used to sell Dean and Jasper drugs" he said, as my stomach flipped and did a leap.

"Jasper never did drugs?" I whimpered.

"He wasn't in a good place April. I wasn't ever allowed to tell you cause he didn't want you to look at him differently. He loved you alot April" Harvey replied and I could see how much it hurt him to tell me all this.

"And you?" I asked changing the subject of matter.

"Well, I never took drugs though they told me everything and I went along with them thrice that is how I met James he was at the mere age of 14 when he was selling the drugs"

14! Seriously 14 !

"You said was a drug seller. Does that mean he isn't anymore?"

"Yes, Dean said he left the dealership about a year back, because he wanted to concentrate on high school" he said as my expression cooled down a little.

"But," Harvey continued. But, why but it always meant something negative.

"He's still not left the gang"

"The what?!? He's in a gang?" I asked.

"Ohh I didn't mention that, well yeah he's in a gang he joined it when he was just 12, he was the son of the ex head of the gang but his father died which left him alone, though he wasn't the leader, he was to remain in the gang for life , that's how he became a drug dealer" Reuben ended.

"How? When? Why? " I asked completely confused at what was going on.

"I don't know but I thought Dean told you about the gang?" He said.

''No he did not" I said angrily as he mentioned Dean's name.

"But the night before his birthday he said he would tell you in the morning" Harvey said quizzically.

"He came to my house but all he told me was to stay away from James " I remembered.

"I should have known he would act like that. Bloody coward" Harvey muttered.

"So are you telling me I should not forgive him after all this?" I asked.

"No don't do that! Forgive him! He's not that bad like the other gang members. Trust me." Harvey whispered.

Just then the bell rang so I walked out of the closet and ran for my biology class after saying bye to Harvey.

"April do you forgive me yet? " James called out from behind.

I just inwardly smiled at his voice, "you know what James I think I may have forgiven you" I said grinning.

"Ohh finally, and just so we're clear I'm going to start calling you Kit-Kat again" he said. I just rolled my eyes and entered class. Turns out Miss Carey was home sick so she wasn't at school and the substitute in her place was a complete idiot so we did nothing the whole class.

"Kit kat" James said softly.

"Yes?" I asked.

"Could you save your second kiss for me too?" he said smirking. I started blushing.

"I'll think about taking that offer" I purred sarcastically.

"So this means you like me" he said grinning at himself.

"No this means I'll get to know how badly my first kiss actually went!" I said cupping his chin in my hands.

"I can assure you that I'm the best kisser ever" he joked.

"I won't fall for it though" I said honestly.

"Oh but you will..." he winked, "this is just another cliché high school romantic movie and you know it. The good girl falls for the bad boy and blah blah blah" he joked.

"Only problem you seem to have in this so called movie is that your female lead just isn't your typical good girl" I smirked.
