I wake to sun hitting my eyes as it streams in through a small opening in the tiny blue curtains. I slightly groan at the unwanted brightness and sit up, stretching my arms in the process. A yawn escapes my lips as a soft knock is heard from the door. I throw my robe on over my night gown. The thin, pale green fabric is silk-like to the touch.
I walk to the wooden door and open it slowly, peering into the hallway. My eyes meet bright green-blue ones. Eyes that I have come to recognize by heart. "Newt!" I say happily. He holds up a tray full of food, a small smile tugging at his lips. "I...I brought breakfast." He says, avoiding eye contact. I smile as I open the for wide enough for Newt to pass through. He gently sets the tray down on the bed and fixes the collar of his coat. I sit on the side of the bed, next to the silver platter that Newt brought. I look up at him, "You're eating too, right?" I question. He gives me a surprised look and begins to stutter, "I, uh, no...I wasn't going to." I pat the bed and say, "You need to eat. Won't you join me?" Newt looks dumbfounded as he removes his blue coat and slowly lowers himself onto the mattress next to me. I smile, "I won't eat all of this anyway." And we began to partake of the steaming plate of food.
Once we finish breakfast, we decide to take a stroll around the ship. It's about noon. The suns bright rays pierce my eyes and slightly burns my skin, however, we find a nicely shaded spot and choose to sit there. I place myself in one of the basking chairs and Newt sits in the one next to it. I gaze out onto the horizon and gasp at how beautiful the vast, gorgeous blue sea is. I've never really had a chance to just sit and look at the ocean. Where I lived, I couldn't see it. I also never had the time to go and see it, it was always work, eat, sleep, and work again. Looking at the ocean now, I can't help but be amazed. Amazed at how the waves seem to dance with one another. Amazed at how the sun shines on the water, making the surface sparkle as if all the blue sapphires of world are gathered in one place. I softly sigh to myself, slowly thinking back to childhood when my parents used to take me to the beach and tell me about all the wonderful and mysterious creatures that live in the sea. I remember dreaming about diving down, deep into the eater and discovering all the amazing animals that may live down there.
Newt must have noticed my subconscious absence, because he cleared his throat, jerking me back to reality. I whip my head in Newts direction, "Huh?" I question. He smirks and raised an eyebrow. I feel pink dust my cheeks. "Oh, I'm so sorry! I was just thinking about the ocean." I say. "The ocean?" He questions and looks to the clear, blue water. "I guess I've never though too much of it." He says. I smile, "When I was a kid, my parents used to take me to the beach every summer. They would always tell me about all the strange fish that live in the ocean. You see, before I studied to be a veterinarian, I wanted to be an adventurer of the sea," I began. Newt adjusted in his chair so he could give me his full attention. "I wanted to discover and study every single creature the sea had to offer. I was a lot more outgoing as a child." New smiles and leans forward. "And yet, here you are. Traveling with a strange man you hardly know and searching for fantastic magical beasts." I look up to meet Newts eyes, which seem to sparkle brighter than the suns beams hitting the surface of the water. That's when a thought popped into my head. "Newt?" I question, leaning forward as well. He hums in response. "Are... Are there magical beasts that live in the sea?" His smile widens at the mention magical beasts. "You bet there are." I feel my smile grow and I slightly clap my hands. "Can I see them?" I ask with excitement, "Please?" Newts wide smile slightly fades into a soft one as he gently cups my face with one hand and says, "Of course you can."
I happily skip back to mine and Newts room like a child skipping to the nearby pastry shop. Newt unlocks the door and heads strait towards his case, I following close behind. He gently runs his long fingers along the light brown leather and quickly opens it. He steps inside and practically slides down the wooden ladder. I follow behind him, taking my time so I don't repeat the events of last time. Still, Newt gently takes hold of my waist and helps me down. Once down, I look up at Newt and smile, "Thank you." Newt smiles and nods. We stand there for minute, looking into each others eyes, Newts hands still on either side of my waist. Newt must have noticed this, because he quickly removed his hands from my waist and turned away, a dark red covering his face. I slightly giggle as Newt scratches the back of his head. "Um... I, uh..." Newt attempts to speak. "It's ok, Newt." I smile, understanding what he was trying to say. Newt lightly smiles, "Do you still wish to see the sea creatures?" I nod. Newt opens the wooden shack door for me and I walk through, Newt following behind. "They're this way." Newt says. I smile and subconmomently wrap myself around Newts arm in excitement. Newt stiffens for a moment, than relaxes under my grip. He smiles and repositions our arms, so I am taking his arm, rather than hanging onto it. I smile and lean onto his shoulder as he escorts me to the magical sea creature section of his magical case.
