Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I'm not too sure how long Newt and I were in Olivander's shop, but when we left, I was still without a wand. Not a single one "chose" me. I cant help but sulk as I sit across from Newt at a wooden table and slowly mix my hot chocolate with a silver spoon. I place my elbow on the rough surface and gently rest my head on my palm, sighing deeply. Newt takes a long, slow drink from his streaming mug as he knits his eyebrows together, as if I was a puzzle that he was desperately trying to solve. "You alright?", he says softly, seeming almost scared to even ask. I frown slightly, than shrug. Newt sits silently for a few seconds, than his face lights up and a small smirk tugs at his lips. He quickly reaches into his pocket, puts money on the table, grabs my hand, and leads me out of the establishment.
"Newt, where are we going?", I ask, but he doesn't respond. His smirk only grows wider. He leads me down the brick roads of Diagon Alley until we cross over a gray bridge that hovers over a small stream. I cant help but stare in awe at the dark green, luscious trees as we enter the forest through its shadowy gateway.
As we go deeper into the woods, it slowly gets darker. I feel the hairs on the back of my neck stand on edge and I pull Newt closer to me and clutch his arm. The darkness is blinding now. I feel Newt gently caress my left hand, which is permanently attached to his upper arm, "Don't worry, were almost there." Im comforted by his words, however, my paranoia tells me a different story. Noticing my discomfort, Newt slips his wand from his soft blue coat and utters "Lumos". Instantly, a soft blue glow illuminates the path. I breathe a sigh of relief, "Thank you." I say, barely above a whisper. Newt than free's his arm from my death grip, and puts it around my shoulders, pulling me closer to his warm body. I gladly wrap one arm around his waist and lay the other on his chest, placing my head on his shoulder.
'He's so warm. So pleasantly warm. I wish I could fall asleep to this embrace.' I realize that my thoughts are getting quite ludacris, 'But it's true. And I am not ashamed of my feelings. Why should I be?' I tilt my head up and kiss Newts cheek gently. Slightly stunned, he pauses and turns to look at me, his eyes wide. "What was that for?", he asks. Even in the dim light I can see a slight pink dust his chiseled cheek bones. I smirk, shrugging as he turns his body towards me, his hand slowly sliding down my arm and reaching my hand. "No reason.", I rely as my smirk grows into a smile. Newt raises an eyebrow, a sly smirk apparent on his face. I've never seen him look like that. "Oh, really?" I feel his hand find my waist and he pulls me closer. Instinctively, I place my hands limply on his shoulders. "No reason? You just felt like it?" He says in a low, hushed tone, making him sound oddly sexy. I feel my cheeks dust red, not sure how to respond to this new side of Newt that was so much unlike him.
I feel his free hand gently take my chin, holding it between his thumb and pointer finger, making me look at him. His nose is millimeters from mine and I can feel his breath tickling my lips. I gulp with anticipation. "Well, this is for no reason as well.", he says, slowly connecting our lips. I sigh deeply as I slightly hum into the sweet, warm kiss. However, as quickly as it began, it ended. Newt pulls away and, though it's pitch black, I know Newt is smirking to himself.
"I've wanted to do that for so long." He says, the light from his wand returning. I smile, "Yeah, me too... Is this the reason you brought me out here?" Newt tenses up and looks at me. "What?? No!! What kind if gentleman would I be if that was the reason?" I giggle and boop his nose with my finger. "Not a very good one." He slumps his shoulders, "I have failed my gentlemanly role.", he says dramatically. I cant help but burst into laughter. Newt gives me an annoyed look. "You're so cute!", I say through fits of laughter. Newt sighs and rolls his eyes, kissing my cheek. "Come on, let me show you the real reason I brought you here." He takes my hand, and continues to lead me on into the darkness.
In no time, Newt and I exit the dark forest and enter into a bright, sunlit clearing. It's absolutely breathtaking. The grass is a beautiful soft green. Not a single color of bark on the trees is repeated, the same goes for the many multicolored green leaves that hang from the numerous brown pillars. In the center, is a great, long log covered in emerald green moss. However, the most beautiful feature, is how a golden glow touches everything it see's with the gentlest hand.
I bring my hands to my mouth and gawk at the beautiful scenery. Newt smiles from behind me. "What is this place?" I ask, so softly that I'm not sure if Newt heard me. He comes up to me, places my hand on his arm, and leads me to the large log. "Im not sure," he says, helping me onto the soft moss, "I discovered it years ago when I was looking for a certain magical creature. I'm surprised no one else has ever found this place." I nod, still taking in the gorgeous scenery. "What were you looking for?" I ask, turning my attention to Newt. He smiles and sits next to me. "I was looking for The Great White Stag." I tilt my head. "The? Aren't there more?" All of a sudden, Newts entire dimenor darkens. He shakes his head gravely. "Im afraid they were hunted to extinction for their antlers. You see, White Stag antlers have very powerful and strange magical properties. Dark wizards would hunt them down, remove the stag's antlers, and use the broken shards as wands. Than they'd leave the poor creatures to die." I watch Newt carefully as he stares off into oblivion, his eyes beginning to water. I feel a single tear roll down my cheek, "Did you ever find him? The Great White Stag?" Newt sniffles, wiping his nose on the sleeve of his coat, "No. Unfortunately not," Newt looks at me, placing his hand on my cheek and wiping away my tear. "But I know he's still out there." He says, smiling. I feel myself smile and lean my face into his hand.
