Gideon doesn't wait, he inserts himself into our conversation and launches into his tale of Charlie his evil step-father and Gavriel's backdoor partnership. Then he mentions something he failed to tell even me.

"My step-father has a safe under one of the rugs in his office. I snuck in there when I was home on break from school and found records of soldiers deployed overseas in Afghanistan. Only these aren't just foot soldiers, these are special ops men and women. Highly trained as lethal weapons both physically and mentally.

"For some time now there have been reports of officers going missing. Disappearing without a trace and reported dead to their families. Because of their missions and intel, it's not widely discussed or reported in the United States, but I think Charlie was helping Gavriel identify these soldiers and targeting them for something."

"What could Gavriel possibly want human soldiers for?" Constance scoffs at the idea initially, but I can tell she's troubled.

"Whatever it is, there's a lot of them. I found at least fifty records in Charlie's safe, and as far as I can tell, more are still going missing." Gideon replies.

"And you think they are somehow connected to what Gavriel is hiding?" Constance asks her face twisted in apprehension. "What the devil is that snake doing with them all?"

"I think that would be obvious." Sophie says.

Up until now, Sophie has been silently listening in on he fringe of this discussion, but now she has our full attention.

"Those soldiers aren't nearly as strong or as lethal as humans..." She continues, leading us to what she's already figured out.

"But as vampires." I exclaim with a low hiss. "He's building an army."

"What could he possibly need an army for?" Christian asks, leaning in.

"Whatever the reason, it can't be good." I reply scanning the room again to see if anyone has picked up on our tense discussion.

"Me." Constance supplies the answer, her eyes suddenly flooded with subdued panic. "He's coming after me."

"Why would he try something like that?" Sophie questions.

"Because he's a grasping little shit." Constance spits back disgusted at her own words. "Now, if you'll excuse me, this is my song."

Constance stands up to join four other vampires on the dance floor leaving the rest of us to contemplate her words.

"Even if Gavriel is building an army," Gideon wonders aloud, "how could he control them? I mean, these are highly trained individuals who wouldn't just blindly take orders from the man that ended their lives and took them away from their families."

"Unless he had a way to control them." I interject softly.

"What do you mean, Bea?" Christian asks, gently resting a hand on my leg.

"Mickey told me something years ago," I explain while Sophie, Gideon and Chrisitan lean in to hear more "Gavriel is a Siren."

"Well, he must be pretty fucking powerful if he can control an entire army." Christian says in a hushed voice filled with dread. "It's probably how he's able to get so many Dark Angels to come after us without asking any questions themselves."

Something else comes back to me as I recall my first meeting with Mickey, he said I'm special. I'm somehow able to resist Gavriel's siren song. In the past Gav's killed the Dark Angels who asked questions. Maybe those Dark Angels were like me and he doesn't want anyone in his little mercenary club able to defy his powers. But then, why keep me alive?
