"What the fuck?!" Christian is raging again after I explain our situation. "Do you have any idea what you've done? What kind of danger you're putting yourself in? That you're putting me in?"

"Yes." I answer with a straight face, unable to hide the shame in my eyes. "I'm sorry."

Christian is rightly terrified of the repercussions he could face now that people have seen both my mark and I here in his bar. When Gavriel unleashes his hunters, and he will send many, this is the first place they will come.

"What do you expect me to do Bea?" Christian is pleading with me now, trying to understand my flawed logic. "You know Gavriel will hunt us down, will hunt you down, and if he finds you, he will kill you."

"Christian, you are the only one who can help us." I beg softly. "We have to get out of New York-"

"You're going to have to get out of the fucking country!" He yells back a low growl building in his masculine chest.

"Can you help us or not?" I ask.

"You know I will do everything and anything in my power to help you." He says, his eyes softening as he reaches a hand up to cup my cheek. "But him, why would I help this human? He's on the list. He deserves to die."

"But that's just it!" I cry. "I don't think he deserves to die!"

"That's not your decision." Christian says, his eyes full of fear for what's to come. "You've given yourself a death sentence, and for what? Some insignificant mark?"

"There's something going on here Christian." I'm begging now, and not feeling too great about it. "Something isn't right. This kid doesn't deserve to die."

"Can you give us a minute?" Christian asks turning to Gideon with disgust.

"Gladly." Gideon answers, looking more than a little terrified. "But I'm not exactly sure where to go."

"Just. Leave." Christian snarls pointing at the door that leads back out to the bar.

Without another word, Gideon picks himself up and drags his worn body out the door throwing me a concerned glance in the process. I'm not sure if he's worried about me, or if he's anxious about the fifty or so odd vampires that he's going to be facing on the other side of that door. I would hope it's the later, but you can never tell with humans.

"Did you develop feelings for this guy? Is that why you're doing this?" Christian asks softly throwing me completely off guard.

"Seriously, I'm about to be hunted down by a pack of highly trained assassins, and you're worried that a human stole your girl?" I ask with a dark chuckle.

Christian doesn't answer, his wounded eyes are searching mine as he licks his lips.

"No." I sigh. "I don't have feelings for this kid. This was nothing but a job until I found out what he did."

"This is dangerous Bea." Christian warns me. "Dangerous and stupid. You're never supposed to question the mark. So why now?"

"I don't know." I tell him honestly, the defeat slipping into my tone. "I honestly don't know, but something about this isn't right. All that guy did was kill his abusive step-dad."

"Who happens to be fourth in line for the presidency of the United States!" He yells angrily gripping my shoulders.

"But the guy was dirty! And something about his late night meetings with Gavriel made me think that there's something bigger going on here."
