~Chapter 16~

“Brodie! Hurry up!” Penny shouted from the bottom of my stairs.

“Okay, okay!” I looked back to Connor. “Now, just remember that Penny’s human and doesn’t know about us.” Connor nodded. “Okay, let’s go!”

I ran downstairs to meet Penny. “Took you long enough.” She muttered and then spotted Connor trailing behind me. “Oh. I see why!” She smirked.

“No Penny. This is Connor, a family friend. I invited him to come today, if that’s alright?”

“Sure he is...” I rolled my eyes at her teasing. “He can come, if that’s alright with Jarred and Susan.”

“I’m sure it is. Come on, let’s go!” I grabbed Connor’s arm and pulled him out the door, calling out to mum, telling her I was going now before shutting the door.

“Brodie!” Susan’s cheery voice greeted me when I jumped into the car. “Took your time.”

“Oh come on! I wasn’t that long!” I threw my hands up in the air. “Oh yeah, I invited a friend if that’s okay with you two?” I asked leaning in between the two front seats.

“Yeah, it’s cool.” Jarred replied and looked out the window. “At least I won’t be the only guy there today. What’s his name?”

“You love it!” Susan spoke at the same time as me.

“His name’s Connor, he’s a, err, family friend?” It came out more of a question but I think they understood what I meant because they both nodded. I climbed across to the right side of the back seat, allowing Connor to climb in after me and Penny after him.

“So Connor, how old are you?” Penny asked, placing her hand on his arm; I rolled my eyes at her shameless flirting, even though she thought, not even five minutes ago, that there was something going on between us.

“I’m seventeen.” He mumbled and pulled out of her grasp awkwardly.

“Penny, why are you always trying to flirt with my friends?” I chuckled. “First my cousin, then Connor, who’s next? My father? Will you think he’s cute?”

“I can’t help it! Your cousin, Sam...” I nodded. “He was one hot looking guy!” I clenched my fist but what was funnier was Susan choking on her water. “You right Susan?” Penny leaned over her seat to look at her whilst Jarred patted her back with one hand and steering with the other.

“Yeah... went down... the wrong... way.” She choked out and sent a glance at me. I looked at her sheepishly and then out the window.

“So, what was I saying?” I looked at her and waited. “Oh yeah! That’s right. You should see him Susan! He’s hot as! His was extremely well built and had the blackest of black hair that dropped in front of his eyes, and his eyes. His eyes were so-“

Susan glanced at me, my jaw was tense, fists clenched and glaring at her seat. She must have known who she was talking about and asked Jarred to do something because he spoke up, interrupting Penny, mid-sentence. “Is this Sam, Sam Winters?”

“I don’t know what his last name was. Is that him Brodie?” I nodded stiffly but Penny didn’t seem to notice. Connor must have because he looked down at me with a questioning glance, I shook my head and looked out my window. “Yeah. How do you know him Jarred?”

“His father is business partners with my father and Brodie’s father. I have only met him once or twice though.”

“Well, he’s hot isn’t he?” Jarred looked uncomfortable as he shifted in his seat, not answering. I looked at Susan and just like me; she looked ready to burst into tears. “Well?”
