~Chapter 5~

What did I do? Should I run? Attack? Howl for help? I really am regretting not listening to dad about not going out tonight! The wolf looked like me, shocked and wondering what to do but he also had an unusual look deep in his eyes that you could only see if you concentrated on them, it was a look as if to say he knew something that I didn’t.

My next thought was on what dad had said, I wasn’t supposed to be letting anyone see my wolf, especially someone I didn’t know. The reason why was beyond me but after not listening to him earlier when I should have, I thought I may as well now.

As I was about to run off, I glanced into the stranger’s eyes again but something stopped me from moving, it was as if we were locked in a trance and nothing else on earth mattered except for the wolf that was standing in front of me.

It just stared back at me and tilted its head to the side before letting out a small whine, snapping me out of my daze.

The wolf suddenly stepped further out of the trees, making its way towards me slowly, almost… cautiously. I didn’t know what to do, I was frozen in place. Every step the wolf got closer, every part of it moved, except for its eyes from mine and when it reached me, it sat down in front of me without breaking eye contact.

Breaking eye contact, I looked over the huge wolf once more and realised it was a male, his size and scent giving the obvious away, I soon realised he was also taking in my features.

In the distance I could hear light thumping along the ground that was slowly coming closer. We both turned our heads to the sound and recognised it as footsteps, the footsteps of wolves. I let out a small whine and put my tail between my legs slightly, worried my father had found me or they were rogues even. I may have looked like a chicken but I had never seen another wolf apart from my parents and this black one.

I swear, if wolves could scowl, the black wolf in front of me just did as he brought his head back towards me. I snorted a laugh like thing, causing me to frown and not believe that sound had just come out of me! I looked up at the wolf horrified only to have him laugh at me so I narrowed my eyes at him.

The footsteps were getting closer and I looked behind the black wolf and then back to him. He looked back down at me for a few seconds before he made a gesture towards the woods with his head. Then I heard something I never thought I would hear. ‘Hide in the woods!’ A deep, male voice nagged urgently in my head. I jumped and glanced up at the black wolf startled who looked just as shocked. ‘Can you hear me?’ He whispered and I ignored the unfamiliar tingles his voice sent down my spine.

‘Yes…’ I squeaked out. ‘I didn’t think that was possible-‘

‘Quick, go. They are almost here! Go into the woods onto your lands and wait for me. I will catch up to you.’ He rushed out and even gave me a little nudge before I dashed off into the woods. I stopped and turned to watch as two unknown wolves stepped into the cliff clearing.

The first one was a light brown cross dark brown wolf and the second was a dark grey one and they both seemed to know the large black one that towered over the two who were about my size.

The area was quiet but the three wolves seemed to be having an internal conversation, showing me they were from the same pack. The black wolf rolled his eyes and shook his head before he gave a little growl that was playful. After a few more seconds, the two wolves backed off and headed back in the direction they had come from.

I could have sworn the black wolf sighed as they ran off. He glanced around the clearing, finding me crouched behind a bush before making his way over to me. I backed up a bit as he drew closer so he stopped walking and sat down. ‘I won’t hurt you…’ He said in a deep but gentle, calm and soothing voice.
