Sans stood gasping for breath. Chara had lasted for way too long.
He knew he had killed her at least three times, and she kept resetting and returning that much more prepared."*wha- what do you even want from this, kid? what do you gain from doing this over and over again?"
Sans didn't get riled up easily, but the never ending smile plastered on the face of a child preparing mass murder was starting to unnerve him. He was also running out of time, due to her lack of Lv, his attacks weren't nearly as effective. He needed to stop her, somehow."*heh.. well.. whatever your reasons, I think it's time I stopped you right here. It's time for my secret attack.. one I'm sure you're very familiar with. one bad day, coming on up!"
He stalled for as long as possible. As long as it was his turn, Chara would be unable to attack. That is, if he could keep himself awake.
He tried by staring into Chara's blood red eyes. He began a staring contest, so he wouldn't close his own.He managed it for nearly an hour, but his natural laziness began to tug at him. He felt himself already drifting off.
Suddenly, with the last of his energy, he summoned five Gaster blasters and surrounded Chara. With a wave of his hand they shot forth a blinding ray of energy. Then, before they had even finished he summoned as many blue-glowing bones as he could and launched them towards the same spot. He finally ended his assault by summoning one final massive Gaster blaster to obliterate her as she was pinned.
"*sorry kid. Just stay in hell for me, 'kay?"When the dust settled, there was only a crater where Chara once stood. It was probably going to be effective only once, now that it was expected, but every second he managed to take from her was worth it.
"Bye Sans :)"
A blade sliced through his torso, the familiar long gash already dripping blood. She had survived his assault and gotten behind him.. he must have already used his final attack before.
He turned and smiled at Chara.
"*heh.. it must have taken you a ton of effort to finally pull that off...He collapsed onto the powder snow-covered ground.
San's eyes closed, his last sight being the dark canopy of the trees reaching towards the cavern's high ceiling.
"*a skele-ton...he..heheh..."
Chara frowned. Pathetic skeleton just had to throw out his go-to pun one last time. Typical.
"*wa-wait." A bony hand gripped Chara's shirt.
She turned back to the dying trash bag.
"*uh.. I get tha... that you won't tell me anything. that's c-cool. jus... just leave Paps out of it this time. pl-please....." He begged uncharacteristically. She left the ashes of the fallen guardian behind as her LV jumped from 1 to 2.
It seems she would be killing everyone a little out of order, in a world where she could finally do the job herself, free from Frisk's shadow."Your turn, Papyrus."
Once again, back in Snowdin...
Papyrus sat up in his red car-bed.
An odd feeling, almost like a tingle but much less pleasant had coursed through his whole body."SANS? ARE YOU PLAYING WITH SPACE AND TIME AGAIN? I TOLD YOU, THOSE TWO ARE OFF LIMITS!"
There was no response.
He got out of bed and marched over to San's room.
He pounded on his door in a shave-and-a-haircut fashion. "SANS? WILL YOU OPEN THIS DOOR?"Still no response.
"VERY WELL. DOOR! PLEASE OPEN FOR ME SO I MAY YELL AT MY BROTHER!"
The door rudely ignored his request.
"HMM.. SO YOU'RE TELLING ME HE IS NOT IN THERE?"
The door neither denied nor confirmed this.
Papyrus went outside. The cool breeze rolled through his bones. He decided to go to San's post. He was doubtful Sans would even be there, or if he was, awake, but after checking in with the bartender-of-flames Grillby, he decided he would make the trip.
He waved cheerfully at Monster Kid, who, arm-less as he was, nodded furiously in response.
Finally Papyrus passed the large sign that read 'Welcome to Snowdin!'
The long, rickety wooden bridge that covered the gap from the city to the ruins had a small figure standing in the middle.
Papyrus waved to it as cheerfully as he did with monster kid.
"HELLO! I SEE YOU ARE CROSSING THE BRIDGE. I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, SHALL ALLOW YOU TO PASS. NO THANKS NECESSARY!"
The figure stepped closer. Now able to see her, Papyrus's smile got even wider, if possible.
"OH, WOWIE! ANOTHER HUMAN CHILD! IN THIS CASE, IN ORDER TO CROSS I'M AFRAID YOU MUST FIRST COMPLETE MY HARDEST CHALLENGE... FIRST! NYEH HEH HEH HE!"
The human stepped closer.
"EAGER, ARE WE! THEN LETS BEGIN!"
Circular blades, torches, swords, a small white dog, and weapons of all types drew closer from some unseen contraption.
The child, unfazed, continued crossing the bridge."HEY, YOU MUST WAIT FOR ME TO ACTI-" He stopped short after the child pulled from behind her a small blue hoodie.
"OH! YOU'VE MET SANS? AND HE LIKED YOU ENOUGH TO GIVE YOU HIS HOODIE?! UNBELIEVABLE! I'VE NEVER EVEN SEEN HIM TAKE THAT OFF.. EVEN TO SHOWER! THEN AGAIN, I'VE NEVER SEEN HIM SHOWER! NYEAHAHAH! IN THIS CASE, JUST THIS ONCE, I SHALL REMOVE THIS PUZZLE AND ALLOW YOU TO PASS AFTER ALL! YOU'RE WELCOME!!"
Chara tossed the hoodie to Papyrus.
"OH? WHAT A KIND GESTURE. ARE ALL HUMANS AS KIND AS..." He trailed off after inspecting the hoodie.
It was red and dusty."AH. I UNDERSTAND NOW. HE SPILLED KETCHUP ON HIMSELF AGAIN. I SHALL WASH THIS, WORRY NOT!" He laughed.
"AND I SEE HE ALSO CUT.. HIMSELF. WHERE THE KETCHUP.. TH.."
Papyrus looked back up to see the unnervingly creepy smile on the child's face.Realization seemed to nearly dawn on the perpetually happy skeleton.
Yet he still wasn't sure."SANS.. HE UM.. WHERE IS HE? DID YOU SEE HIM AT HIS POST?"
The human nodded.
"OH. GOOD. WELL, I AM NOT SUSPICIOUS AT ALL THEN. UM... IF YOU'D EXCUSE ME. I HAVE TO GO."
Papyrus felt something was wrong. Despite even his overwhelming nativity, the child disturbed him.
He ran to see Undyne.
