•Walking round with my head down,
but I can't hide with these high heels on. Downtown in a thick crowd, but it's just you that my mind is on. Dressed up, got my heart messed up. You got yours and I got mine. It's unfair that I still care, and I wonder where you are tonight.
Thinking it could be different.
But maybe we missed it yeah.
Thinking it could be different.
It could, it could.
It should've been us. Shoulda been a fire, shoulda been the perfect storm.
It should've been us. Coulda been the real thing. Now we'll never know for sure, ooh. We were crazy, but amazing, baby we both know.
It should've been us, us.
It, it, it should've been us•

It Should've Been Us; Tori Kelly.

--------------

The weeks passed by fairly quickly, and before long, it was Christmas break.

Maya was quite excited for break, and especially for the Matthew's Christmas/New Year's party. She'd see Josh again, and they'd flirt non stop. Or, she'd try to flirt, but it most likely would come out as a two year old wanting to marry Ken (Barbie's Boyfriend.)

But she was even more excited because she got to bring Brandon. Ever since the two had gotten pretty serious, she'd wanted him to actually meet the group. She'd then be able to prove to them that he was a good guy, because he was. He was super sweet, and caring. He'd never intentionally hurt Maya.

The only sad thing about Christmas Break was one thing. She still loved Lucas. She loved him even more now though, but that was most likely because he and Riley had gotten even more serious last week.

For their three month anniversary, Lucas had gotten her a promise ring.

And listen to this:

Riley already had asked her to be her maid-of-honour.

There goes any chance she ever had with Lucas.

Damn it.

She regretted so badly not telling him about her feelings all that time ago. She even regretted giving Riley to him.

"Yes, I love you too, Honey," Maya said into her iPhone.

"Wait, Maya!"

"Yes?"

"Missy Bradford brought something to my attention today-"

"Don't believe anything she says," Maya replied. "She's a brat."

"No, Maya!"

"Okay," Maya sighs. "Tell me."

"Lucas got me a promise ring. But he hasn't told me he loves me. Isn't that like.... wrong?"

"Uhh...."

"Because Maya, I love him. Like for real this time."

The phone was silent.

"Maya?"

Call has ended.

---------

"Happy New Years!"

"Yep," Maya said with a smile as she walked into the Matthew's house.

It was New Years Eve, currently eight o'clock.

"Brandon! C'mon!"

Her blonde boyfriend crossed his arms and walked into the Matthew's house.

"I hate it here," He said immediately to him. "I don't know anyone."

"You know me," She pipes up, wrapping her arms around the boy's waist. "And at midnight, we can go and make out in a storage closet or something."

He kissed her cheek. "Sounds good to me."
