____Girl Meets Ski Lodge Part Two__

"What I've observed about you is that you're the best friend anyone could ever have."

She stared into those eyes. What was he saying?

"Maybe it's because your Dad left, maybe it's because you've never felt that love.. but it gave you the greatest capacity for love that I've ever seen."

She was so confused. But all she knew was that her feelings were so messed up.

And that she was in a triangle.

And that the guy that caused the triangle was the one that never left her mind.

Not this one. Not the boy in front of her.

"Say that again."

"So you didn't understand?" He asks.

"No," She replies. "I understood you. Just say it again, say it fifty times. Say it in French."

"You already heard me say it the first time."

"Okay," She says to him. "Thankyou, but you're wrong. It's Riley that's the best friend anyone could ever have."

"You know," He says with a smile. "What I've also noticed Maya, is that you've cared about Riley so much for so long that the moment she decides to care for somebody else-"

"Lucas?" The girl asks with a confused expression.

"You need to protect her," The boy finishes.

"How?" She asks. She didn't get where he was going with this still.

"You needed to see if she was safe with him."

"Ya but how could I possibly do that?"

She was only getting more confused.

How did protecting Riley have anything to do with her and Lucas?

"Well let's see," He replies. "You loose yourself to become like her so that you can know him like she knows him."

The words slowly begin to fit together, but they still don't sound exactly right.

"What a great way to see if he's good enough for your best friend."

She loves Riley more than anything, but weren't her feelings real?

"I was protecting her?" She asks quietly.

The boy nods, "She would do the same for you."

She didn't want to believe it. But if Riley would do the same for her, then she must have been protecting her best friend.

These feelings couldn't possibly be her own then.

They were Riley's.

"She did," The girl replies. "She brought me back."

"And now that you're here?"

"I don't like Lucas like that?"

But the boy heard it as a statement, not a question.
