Yuuri sat on his bed, his back resting against the wall, and his phone pressed against his ear. It was dark in the room, and the only thing lighting it up was the lamp on his desk that he had left on. But even though it was nighttime where he was, he knew that where Viktor was, the sun was shining brightly.
"How's your day going?" he asked, earning a hum from the Russian man. "It's been going well up to now. I skipped my last few classes, so everything's going great."
"Why'd you skip your last classes?"
"They're boring and I was tired. It was better for me to come home and sleep here than fall asleep during class."
Yuuri chuckled and shook his head. "I just think you're lazy."
"That, too. You would do the same if you were me."
"No, because I'm actually responsible and I actually get a good night's sleep." Yuuri smiled, picking at his blanket. "Liar, I bet you pull all-nighters."
"You got me there."
Yuuri heard Viktor laugh at the other end of the line, and smiled. He liked talking to Viktor, it comforted him. He's never felt this way with anyone else before, not even his best friend, Pichit, who was well aware of how anxious the dark-haired boy could get. Viktor barely knew anything about Yuuri, only a few tidbits here and there, only because Yuuri was still afraid to open up to him. But Viktor still tried his best with Yuuri. He tried to the best he could with Yuuri, because he knew the young boy wasn't used to any of this, and he needed a bit of time to fully open up to him. But it was okay with him, he was willing to wait for Yuuri as long as he needed to.
"So, what time is it where you are?" Viktor asks. Yuuri turns his head around, looking for a place to look at the time. He pulls his phone away from his ear to check and presses it back against it. "It's 1am..."
"Yuuri!" The Russian man exclaimed, startling Yuuri, and making him pull his phone away from his ear. "Jeez, what is it, Viktor?"
"You need to go to sleep!" Yuuri rolled his eyes and chuckled. "I don't want to...I want to keep talking to you."
"Aww, that's cute. But you need to go to sleep. Sleep is way more important than this."
"This is more important to me than sleeping," Yuuri muttered, pulling his pillow close, and holding it between his chest and knees. Viktor was silent for a while, probably trying to process Yuuri's words. "Stop making my heart ache," he finally said, earning a laugh from the Japanese boy. "It's not my intention to do so."
"Well, it seems like it. So mean."
Yuuri smiles widely, he can almost see Viktor pouting. "Sorry, Vik..."
"It's okay, you're alway mean to me."
"Not always! It's a force of habit to tease you."
"That is so mean, Yuuri."
"You're such a baby," Yuuri chuckled, rolling his eyes. "You love it," Viktor retorted. "What if I don't?
"Then, that will hurt me more."
"Alright then, I don't."
Viktor whined and groaned, making Yuuri laugh. "I'm kidding, I'm kidding...I do. You know I just like teasing you."
"I'd rather you tease me in another way," Viktor muttered. Yuuri's eyes went wide and his cheeks became as red as cherries. "Viktor! Don't say that! That's so—ugh!" He couldn't believe Viktor just said something like that. They're not even that close yet. Well, maybe they were, but not at that point. He hears Viktor laughing at the other end, making him groan. "Don't say stuff like that, seriously."
"Okay, okay, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you flustered."
"Who says I'm flustered?!"
"Definitely the way you reacted."
Yuuri tightened his grip around his pillow, burying his face in it. Sometimes Viktor was just an asshole. "Seriously..."
"I won't say stuff like that again, until you're more comfortable. I promise." And sometimes Viktor was less of an asshole. "I hope so," Yuuri muttered. "I promise. Anyway, you really need to go to sleep. You'll be tired the entire day if you don't get enough sleep."
"I'm used to not sleeping well."
"Doesn't matter, it's bad for your health to stay up so late."
"My health has been completely unaffected by this."
"Yuuri," Viktor's voice became stern. Yuuri raised his eyebrows in confusion, even if Viktor couldn't see him. "What?"
"I'm concerned about my boyfriend's sleeping habits. So, please, go to sleep. We can talk tomorrow in the morning."
Yuuri's eyes widened at the word boyfriend. It felt so surreal to be called someone's boyfriend. He's never had one before, so he never knew what that felt like. But now he does. It's weird how he's glad he met Viktor, even if it was in the weirdest way possible. But it also scared Yuuri. Because whenever he liked someone, that person would leave them. And he didn't want the same to happen with Viktor. He really liked Viktor and he didn't want him to leave him. It scared him really.
Yuuri shook the negative thoughts out of his head and let out a sigh. He needs to calm down and forget about everything that's happened in the past, before Viktor came along. Viktor is different, he isn't like anyone he's ever met. So maybe this time, everything will be different, too, and the same story as always will not repeat.
"Alright, Viktor...I'll go to sleep."
"Good. I'll call you tomorrow morning. Sleep well."
"Thanks...I hope you have a nice rest of your day." Yuuri placed his pillow back on his bed and lied down, resting his head on it. "Until tomorrow."
"Thanks...Goodnight, Yuuri."
"Bye, Viktor..." With that, Yuuri lazily hung up, and set his phone beside him. He sighed and closed his eyes. He really does hope things will be different with Viktor. He doesn't want his heart to be broken again.
