*A/N This is all from Phil's POV unless otherwise noted*

I sat with PJ, his leg bouncing up and down, hands fidgety. He kept running his hand though his hair, all of which were signs of nervousness. I would know, considering that we had been best friends for 10 years, since we were seven.

"Phil, what if they're late?"

I sighed. "PJ, your soulmate is not going to be late. The clock doesn't lie."

PJ simply nodded. "One minute left."

We were sitting on a bench in a park, waiting for PJ's clock to count down. For him to meet his soulmate. "I have a feeling about the park. And this spot specifically." He had told me. It's not like I could disagree, after all, what did I know about souldmates?

What would I ever know?

I couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy. Of course I was happy for PJ, he was my best friend, how could I not be happy for him? But his excitement was something that I would never get to experience. Something that I wish I could have.

"Ten, nine seconds..." PJ muttered.

I looked around and saw no one. I started getting nervous that maybe PJ's Soulmate wouldn't show up. That's impossible, of course- the universe is never wrong. Yet PJ's nervous fidgeting started getting to me.

I heard footsteps approaching and both of us looked up. Our friend Sophie was standing there; she stood in silence for a few second staring at PJ before she bust out laughing. A huge grin spread across PJ's face before he started laughing too.

"Of course it was you!" She managed to say despite laughing. "I'm sorry, it's just so funny and obvious to me. I can't believe that I didn't see it coming!"

PJ got up and gave her a hug. "We're so compatible, can't believe that I didn't realize that, either. Maybe we should make sure our clocks actually fit together to make sure this isn't a fluke."

Sure enough, they shifted and slid into place. I was confused, though; Sophie and PJ have known each other for years, so why now did the clocks finish their countdown? I made a mental note to ask Mum when I got home.

I figured I should give them some time to celebrate, so I waved goodbye and walked home.

When I got home, I heard music playing from the record player we keep in our living room.

"Mum? Mum where you?"

"The kitchen Philly darling."

My mom has always had a flair for being dramatic, and it's one of my favorite things about her. When I found her, she was dancing around the kitchen cooking dinner."

"How was PJ's Soulmate meeting?" She asked me, practically floating to the fridge to grab vegetables.

"Oh, it was good. His soulmate was Sophie, actually. Speaking of, I have a question-"

"Sophie! How wonderful. I knew they were meant for each other."

"Yeah it is. I have a question though. How is it that PJ and Sophie have known each other for years, yet only now their clocks run out and they're deemed soulmates?"

Mum stopped and smiled. "That's probably because when they first met, they weren't ready for to be soulmates. They needed time to mature first, and the universe knew that. You know, that's what happened to your father and I. We worked together for a few years before we were matched. Heavens knows we weren't ready to be together when we first met. We hated each other; he hated how dramatic and over the top I can be. I couldn't stand how serious he was. But we even each other out and have learned from another."

I nodded and looked down. "I'm happy for them but I can't help feeling a little jealous."

Mum gave me a hug. "Of course. But just remember that you don't have to be alone forever."

Mum had grown more open to talking about the topic. She told me that her and my dad believed my soulmate might have died in the womb or shortly after birth. She also told me that when I was born I had a very short time on my clock, but the day after I was born it was at 0.

The next day at school, PJ and Sophie made sure that everyone knew they were soulmates. For the most part, everyone was happy for them; they were both well liked by the majority of people.

The bell rang and I went to my first class, waiting for an uneventful day. However, a few minutes into class our headmaster walked into our class.

"Excuse me, sorry to interrupt but we have a new student. Come on in, don't be shy."

The new student walked in; he was tall, and had dark curly hair. He looked familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Then we made eye contact. How could I ever forget those eyes?

"Everyone," the headmaster continued, "This is Dan."

I sat in shock for a second. I never thought I'd see him again, although I never forgot him.

"Phil, maybe you'd like to show him around?"
