Babysitting Matti

"Menggay sure ka kaya mo? Pwede namang mamaya na kami umalis pag dating ni RJ." Nikki said as she hopped on one foot while putting a shoe on the other by Maine's condo's foyer.

"Ganyan ka ba ka walang tiwala sakin, Ate?" Maine crossed her arms and pouted at her sister.

"Erhm..." The eldest of the Mendoza siblings tilted her head to the side as if studying her little sister.

"At talagang pinag isipan mo pa ha. Wag na lang, di na namin ibi-babysit si Matti. Bitbitin nyo na lang sya sa date nyo."

"Eto naman di na mabiro. Sige na alis na kami. Tawag ka na lang pag may catastrophe at hindi nyo na kayanin."

"Wag ka mag-alala, di ka makakatanggap ng tawag samin. Enjoy na lang kayo. Bubye!"

"Talaga lang ha." Nikki raised an eyebrow at her. "Wag mo rin tatawagan si Nanay o si Pe ha."

"Oo ba. Ako pa." She said smugly. "Sige na alis na."

"O sya. Tulog pa naman si Matti baka andito na rin si RJ pag gising nun."

"Bakit parang mas panatag ka pag andito si RJ?" She sounded offended.

"At least alam kong may adult na kayong kasama."

"Bakit ganyan ka sakin?" She stomped her foot, validating her sisters dig about her maturity.

"De joke. Sige babye." They bussed each others cheeks and Maine waited for them to get into the elevator before closing the door.

"Here goes." She took a deep breath and squared her shoulders as she made her way to her room to check on Matti.

It was a Sunday and her Ate Nikki and Kuya John's anniversary. The had first asked Coleen to babysit Matti for them so that they could go on a date but Coleen and their parents had to be in Singapore for a business summit on the same weekend. Pe went to visit her mom in the province and well, Maine was the lesser of evils between her, Nico and Dean. And she would have RJ with her and that eased Nikki's mind all the more. Maine and RJ readily accepted as they really had nothing planned. RJ just had to finish up with SPS then he would go directly to Maine's place.

She sighed in relief when she saw that Matti was still peacefully sleeping. In all honesty, she was just as nervous as her Ate Nikki about being left alone with Matti as she really had zero knowledge about babysitting. She only agreed to it because RJ would be with her. She knew her Ate Nikki just jested about it but truthfully, RJ would be the only mature mind between her, him and Matti. She could only sigh, counting the minutes until RJ would be free of his commitment.

She turned on the TV on her room where Matti was sleeping and put the volume to low and watched SPS. It was on commercial break so she texted him.
