New Years Eve.

Maine was in their living room, leaning by the window and typing away on her phone with the sparks from the fireworks display in their neighborhood as her background. She was composing a New Year message for him. She was going to send it as soon as the clock strikes twelve.

She wrote:

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

2015 had been the best year for me so far and you are the biggest reason why it was so. I'm sure sawa ka ng sa message ko na to dahil paulit ulit mo ng nababasa sa mga letters ko for you, but I will still keep on saying na, "Sobrang thankful ako na dumating ka sa buhay ko" kasi nothing can be more true. Thankful talaga ako. Thank you for my 2015! I'm looking forward sa journey natin this year and I'm praying na magpatuloy sa mga susunod na taon pa. I know we can do it as long as ikaw at ako, ako at ikaw, tayong dalawa ang magkasama.

She read and reread her message-looking for typos and making sure it was not too cheesy or lovey dovey. When she deemed the message perfect, she looked at the time on her phone. 11:54PM.

She looked out the window and the fireworks display had increased along with the noise level of the festivities in their neighborhood. Her family started gathering by the window as well so that they could watch the fireworks too.

She looked at her phone again. 11:58 PM.

The hosts from the New Year's Countdown Special that they had on the background started the countdown. Her attention was now on Alden's goofy face on the TV instead of the fireworks outside, and as soon as they reached zero, she tapped the send button on her phone.

She smiled and turned to her family to greet them.

The countdown special ended, and she went to the kitchen to get something to munch on. Her phone rang when she was about to go back to the living room and she smiled as she read the name on the screen.

"Family," she called from the kitchen and they turned to her, "Akyat na ako, good night!"
