Chapter 2 – Harry

I tap my pen aimlessly against my textbook as I watch the clock tick slowly...slower...slower. I give up on watching it, knowing time will slow down if I watch it. I try to pay attention to what the teacher is saying but  I can’t...I can barely remember her name let alone what we’re studying. My eyes wander aimlessly and, as always, land on the head of artificial blonde hair in the front row.

What have I done? I can’t believe I’m such a jackass...I can’t believe I let my friends take over me instead of my feelings. I mean, I got what I’ve always wanted: Popularity. But now there is something I want more...but it’ll never happen. That’s why I’ve given up. I’ve given up on everything and I date the slutty chicks to keep up with my social status. I don’t care about the girls, if I did, I’d keep a relationship for more than a week, but I don’t. So that’s why I just, as bad as it sounds, cycle through them. I mean, it’s not like I shag them, I just snog them in the halls...completely different. I can say it’s made me a better kisser, I can guarantee...

“Mr. Styles?” I snap my head up and notice everyone staring at me...I’m only caring about one set of crystal blue eyes.

“Uh...seven?” I ask and she sighs, Tyler and Josh laugh, shaking their heads.

“No, it was Daisy,” she says “This is English class, Mr. Styles, and we’re studying The Great Gatsby...so if you could kindly turn to page one hundred and fifty, I might reconsider your detention free period.”

I scoff as I open the book, the class breaking out in ‘ooohs’ and I can’t help but flip them off...except that person in the front row...I couldn’t do that. I actually read along with the teacher until the bell goes, I look at her for confirmation and she sighs.

“Get out, Mr. Styles,” she smiles, shaking her head “Next time, though, I won’t be so nice.”

“Thanks, Miss,” I say, grabbing my books and putting them in my bag before rushing out of the class, trying not to lose track of my favourite blonde.

“Oi, Harry!” I stop in my tracks and turn around, smiling at Tyler.

“Hey, man!” I say, bro-hugging him and he chuckles.

“What were you doing just then? You looked like you were on a hunt or something,” he laughs and I laugh along with him.

“I was just looking for someone, going to make them do my homework for me, you know?” I cover and he punches my arm, dragging me with him toward the cafeteria.

“You are more of a jock then me...even I do my homework on my own.”

“Well, I meant like, tutor me...get me up to speed on what’s happening in the book,” I say, chewing the inside of my cheek.

“Who the fuck is paying attention?!” He laughs and I fake laugh, trying to see the funny side of having bad grades...there is no funny side, the dickhead.

“Who was this mysterious person, anyways?” Tyler asks and I shrug.

“Just some chick in front row, you know that real smart one?” I ask.

“Oh, Niall Horan?” He howls with laughter and I shake my head.

“No, Niall’s a guy,” I say, my voice having a defensive tone to it.

“Mate, did you just defend Niall Horan? Holy fuck,” he laughs again and I roll my eyes.

“He’s not as bad as you think,” I state.
