Chapter 4 – Niall
Math class is a complete bore...I can’t help but sit there aimlessly as I tap my foundation pen on my open workbook, showing my completed equations. I look around the class and roll my eyes at the hooting jocks, throwing paper at me. I shake my head as I start drawing on a free page in my book, not really paying attention to what it is.
“That’s really good,” the girl next to me says and I look up at her, seeing she’s pointing to my drawing. My drawing of a simple Samurai Sword, a Katana...interesting choice, Niall.
“Thanks,” I say quietly, shading in the handle.
“You should go in the art show at the end of term,” she says “I mean seriously...those sketches would win you something.”
“I don’t think so,” I say and she sighs.
“Come on! Take a risk!” She nudges me “I’m serious, you are an amazing drawer!”
“Thanks but...no thanks,” I say.
“Fine,” she sighs “I’m Eleanor, by the way.”
I look up at the brunette with the kind, brown eyes and smile. “I’m Niall,” I say and he eyes widen in surprise.
“Oh my gosh, I didn’t recognise you looking like that!” She exclaims and I smile, shaking my head as I go back to my drawing. “I mean, seriously, I’m used to you shying away from, like, everyone! But now you actually look cute, so I thought I’d just be nice and score myself another friend.”
“You talk a lot,” I laugh slightly and she smiles.
“I get that a lot,” she says, shrugging slightly “I don’t really care, I like to talk.”
“Alright then,” I say, closing my book and packing my stuff away, knowing there is nothing better to do.
“So what’s with the change of style, Mr. Horan?” She asks, drumming her fingernails on the desk.
“I just...hoped it gets them off my back, I guess,” I say, shrugging.
“I believe Harry Styles already did that for you,” she says and I try not to smile. Instead, I act like I don’t know a thing.
“What do you mean?” I ask, looking at her with confusion and her jaw drops.
“You don’t know?” I shake my head “He got into a fight with Tyler over you! He full-on stood up for you and threw his popularity out the window!”
“Doubtful,” I say simply and she rolls her eyes.
“You’re so not easy to convince,” she says.
“I get it from Camryn,” I say and she gasps.
“Camryn Evans?” She asks and I nod slowly. “Oh my gosh, have you heard her sing?!”
“Uh, no,” I say and she smiles widely.
“Oh my, she is, like, so good at singing! She performs at this bar down the street from my house and she, like, plays the grand piano they have there and...Wow.”
“She sounds good,” I say and she laughs.
“I can’t believe you haven’t heard your friend sing,” she says, shaking her head “It’s kind of weird, in a way...I mean, everyone has heard her sing.”
“Not me,” I say “I don’t really mind.”
“You should come to the bar with me tonight...she’s playing again and I bet she would love it if you were there.”
