Chapter Two
Alice couldn't believe this was the Loki she'd heard so many bad things about. The same one who killed without remorse, without mercy; the same person who could kill her anytime he wanted, kill her and never regret it. So why was he being so nice to her now?
He walked over to his bed and sat back down, rather abruptly; leaving her standing there, staring wonderingly after him.
"Would you ever turn over a new leaf? You know, give up on taking over the Earth and all?" The question just popped out before she could find the will to stop herself.
Loki looked at her, his eyes mildly amused and gave her a wicked smile. "No, but if I do you'll be the first to know."
Her heart skipped a beat, making her feel like a teenage girl again - though, of course she never did have a childhood crush. This was all very new to her. Thankfully, she could turn into her smoke form, choosing to take the shape of a cloud - she didn't want him to see her blush.
Loki watched as she swirled around in the air, it was really something to see. Though most of the colours were dark, the white and blue from her eyes stood out and showed up in random places, twirling around in the air. Sensing that she didn't want to talk anymore, Loki closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep, not realising that he was this tired.
= Loki's Dream =
He stood on the crumbly earth of a dimly lit world, looking masterfully out over his army, whilst opening his arms out wide, making the warriors burst into celebratory cheers. Loki then watched as the crowd parted, making a path down the centre. Confused, Loki teleported to the ground and walked to the opening, stopping when several Chitauri walked over to him, roughly pulling something along the ground behind them.
Loki's eyes widened in horror, as it became clear what they were dragging. He watched as Alice was lifted up and tossed on the ground in front of him. He pulled off his helmet and fell onto his knees, landing next to her. Her eyes were closed and she wasn't breathing. Loki scooped her up into his lap and held her tightly. Her hair was a mess, half of it seemed to be missing, her lips were white - as was her skin, and she looked like she'd gone down fighting and had struggled for a long time.
"Why would you do this to her?!" Loki screamed with fury at the Chitauri.
Loki laid her down, still being gentle with his love and stood up quickly - his skin was turning blue and he felt his eyes changing colour. He was about to kill the monsters who'd murdered his beloved, but the answer he received made him freeze with horror.
"Sir, you told us to kill everyone - no exceptions." Their words were true. He had killed Alice. She had died knowing that he was responsible.
Tears fell down his face, as he realized he'd never see Alice again, never see her smile, or laugh and he'd never hear her voice again. Loki screamed out in pain, the most intense agony imaginable, as the world around him faded into black.
= Loki Awake =
Loki bulleted out of bed, gasping for air as he scanned the cell for Alice, but she was no-where to be seen. Instead there were two burly-looking guards standing near the door.
"Where is Alice?" Loki demanded.
His sudden out-burst made them both jump and then look over at him - they were clearly scared of him and looked warily at each other before saying anything.
"Agent Lines was relieved for the night." Both could see that this wasn't the answer he was looking for.
There was a clock on the wall that read nine o clock. Loki wondered if she was sleeping, but more than that he just wanted to see her. His dream had made him angry - at himself more than her - he was scared for Alice. He just had to see her. Alive and well.
Loki sat on the ground and crossed his legs. He pushed his mind out of his body, out of the room, down the hall, past people who had no idea he was there. If he tried, he could probably find the memory of someone who knew where she was, but he didn't have the time for that.
To his relief Alice's room was relatively close to his cell. Loki cloned himself expertly and now the real him stood in the middle of her room, looking lovingly at her while she slept. She had kicked off her blanket in her deep sleep and it was now discarded in a pile at the bottom of her bed. He exhaled, releasing out all his emotions in one breath; an act of extreme catharsis, when he saw her roll over onto her back and said something about "more pie."
Looking around her room revealed nothing about her identity - the walls were bare - no photos, posters, nothing. There was a small table with a few books on it and a dressing table that had a bottle of water on it. Looking back at her, he saw her shiver from the cold and by waving his hand, almost dismissively, he used his powers to pull the blanket over her.
"Loki." She whispered his name softly, but clearly.
This made him smile adoringly, as he stood there looking at her. But his smile faded on realising that he'd have to go back to soon. He was just sitting there, seemingly daydreaming in his cell and knew sooner or later that someone would raise the alarm. Before he left, Loki walked over to her, leaning over her to whisper in her ear.
"I swear that you will never have to worry about being alone because I'll always be with you, my Alice." He whispered, all of his heart pouring out in that message. He managed to vanish, just as Alice's eyes flew open.
Loki opened his eyes and then stood up, not making eye contact with the guards. He only looked up when the door opened, he glanced over his shoulder to see who came in. It was Thor and he was holding a plate full of food with a small collapsible table.
Loki watched silently as Thor opened the cell door and walked in. His presence added an eerie quality to the room; he did not like it.
"Time to eat, brother." Thor set up the table near the bed and rested the plate on it.
Loki sat down and started to eat, while Thor took the opportunity to sit next to him.
"So brother, where were you just now?" Thor asked, straight to the point, looking Loki in the eye.
Loki smiled at him with his mouth full of food, but did not answer his question. Thor had lived with Loki long enough to know when he was travelling outside of his own body.
"I don't know what you're talking about, I've been here, in the cell the whole time." Loki said waving his hand around the cell. "It's a great place, must be best in the house!", he added, not being able to resist the urge to let his cheeky side shine through.
Thor stood up, obviously annoyed and started pacing the cell. As Loki watched him, his thoughts travelled back to Alice and how she had looked so adorable lying in her bed. It was then that Loki noticed Thor staring at him.
"Your silver tongue does not deceive me, brother. You have something planned and we intend to stop it." Thor said walking back over to Loki.
Loki wiped his mouth and stood up to be at more of an eye level with Thor.
"Did it ever occur to you that I might have nothing going on. And if I did," Loki said turning away from Thor and walking to the other side of the cell, "did you ever think, even just for a moment, that it might be something good."
Thor sighed heavily, used to Loki's tactics and started walking towards the cell door. He turned around to look at Loki before he left. "Loki, I always hope you'll choose the right thing." Thor's voice was quiet, filled with pain and regret. With that he left the cell and then the room, leaving Loki alone with the two guards, once again.
