"Thirty years ago there was a man called John Douglas, he was a geneticist I think, and he was experimenting with the genes of all the elements" Aaron said slowly as if speaking any faster would be too much for me to handle.
My eyes widened slightly but I bit my lip to stop myself from speaking, of course this had to do with a bloody scientist. I rolled my eyes.
Aaron was leaning his elbows lightly onto his thighs, his eyes holding a far away look as he spoke.
"His research was experimented on humans, injected into subjects to find out how our elemental abilities had formed and had affected us"
A sliver of fear shot down my spine. His research was injected into people! The thought of people being strapped to beds and being cut up for research burst into my mind. I shivered, oh my god-too many movies.
"He forced people to be apart of his experiments" I whispered. I was shocked, who could do such a thing? I grabbed onto Aaron's knee urging to get a negative reply.
His eyes snapped to my hand which rested on his knee, he left his eyes there until I hastily pulled my hand away.
He shook his head quickly, frowning
"No" he began "The subjects all wanted to be there, they were receiving money in return"
I sighed in relief leaning away from him again.
"Carry on" I said, urging him on with a wave of my hand. That must have taken a lot of money for people to do that I thought.
He raised his eyebrows at my order but said nothing about it.
"He was supposed to be researching about the elements, But instead he began experimenting with mixing genes and elements, thus creating us" he gestured to us both.
My eyebrows shot up. Damn, our element was created from a mix of everything and not from a natural cause! But, I still don't understand why showing our element got me such a bad scolding.
I opened my mouth to ask, but as if sensing my question he began talking again.
"I'll get to the reason why pep's can't wonder around with purple eyes showing in a second"
Pep, What the hell does that mean? ... People?
"What's pep mean?" I cut in, digging my nails into the wood underneath me.
Aaron let out a sigh as if he knew I was going to ask that question "It means Purple eyed people"
I snorted, pep. That sounded like a pet name, come here pep! I imagined some tough guy going up to someone and telling them they were a mighty pep. I giggled at the thought.
Aaron's jaw tightened slightly. He sat up straight folding his arms In front of his hard chest like an agitated child being teased.
"It's not funny! This is a serious matter Ally and Pep is something to easily separate us from others if you must know" Aaron declared.
I covered my mouth with a fist to stop any more giggles from escaping my lips. Calm down now Ally I told myself, I mean I must look so mature right now- not that Aaron's stance right now made him look mature in the slightest.
I puffed up my cheeks and did a quick bum shuffle to show I was getting into my serious mode.
I dragged my eyes back to Aaron to see he was, slightly smiling? No way, the almighty serious Aaron was smiling.
"Anyway" he dragged on clearly a little amused by my little laughing episode but wanting to keep his cool.
He dropped his arms into his lap, smile sliding off his face. He coughed, eyes turning hard.
