The story of Tristin and Lydia.... who doesn't know each other's name

"I can't do this anymore." Ryder said

"B-but we were meant to be," Steph exclaimed

Lydia puts the book down to catch a breath and collect her emotions, I mean her ship just broke, it does a lot to you. She takes steady breathes and re-reads what just happened, making sure if it was real and not the late night reading catching up with her. Nope it was real. Now in a bad mood continues to read only because she now needs to know if it was going to end the way she wanted it to.

She is now about two more chapters in when she hears a screeching/ shuffling sound from the backroom. Her house as 3 floors; upstairs, ground floor, and the basement. Lucky for her, her room is in the basement along with the backroom of the basement which was used as the laundry and storage room.

Stupid cat interrupting my reading thinking the Melody aka the cat was in the backroom getting into mischief as usual. Lydia is content with her position on her bed, she rather not have to get up to handle the cat. If Melody distracts her two more times Lydia decides she'll get up and deal with the problem at hand. So she goes back to reading

*Shuffling*

Lydia looks up from her book glaring holes at the door that connects her room the the backroom, while silently praying that was the last noise Melody will make. She goes back to reading in an even worse mood her ship is sinking and she can't even get to the part where everything gets better in peace. She starts to relax not having the thought of noise on her mind when-

*Shuffles*

She knows if she doesn't deal with Melody she isn't going to stop. Lydia lazily walks to the backroom, opening the door saying "Stupid Cat-" Only to see a  guy with dark brown hair and forest like eyes sitting on a bucket in her house. Right next to her room. Her jaw drops open in shock. She doesn't know what to do, how to respond, or even if she should respond. But everything was hitting her so fast she couldn't help but stand there and stare at the man in front of her.

Tristin on the other hand  can't believe he's been caught, he's done this so many times before sneaking into this house instead of going in is own. He's knocked things down before and hasn't gotten caught. Though he knows this time is different when he gazes upon the very real and alive girl standing before him. The girl has her blue eyes wide and mouth ajar in only what he can assume is shock. Her long wavy brown hair is even a tad frizzy adding to her look of utter shock.

Making sure she doesn't scream to get her parents he quickly goes over to her a puts a hand over her mouth "Please don't scream!" He says in a harsh whisper, now not sure what else could happen or who could show up, but little did he know screaming was never once an option that could have crossed her mind even if she wanted to. As weird as it may be he could be safer then her own family, or at least the people she lives with. Not having any options left she complied by nodding her head in fear of what could happen next.

Tristin's mind eased a little but not completely knowing he was causing her fear in her own home. "I'm not here to hurt you," He starts saying while looking straight into blue eyes filled of fear. "I'm not here to hurt anyone. I'll let you go just don't scream." He silently pleads for her to trust him. Trust a stranger that broke into their home like that's an easy thing to do he thinks. Once again she complied by nodding her head.

He hesitantly took his hand off of her mouth having no other options but to trust her, well it was his only option unless he wanted to dig himself farther in the ground. "Look I get that your scared, that was never my intention. I-" He chokes on his words not ready to revel this to anyone not even his best friends and he didn't want to.

"I was really cold and I needed to be warm." Sure those words didn't seem like much but to him they were. "I didn't- well I don't have anywhere to go and the house looked vacant from the outside. That's it I swear... and technically the door was unlocked so didn't 'break in'." His lips twist in a small upturn trying to lighten up the situation.

Even though the man in front of her could be lying, everything he's doing could even be intentional, she chose to believe him. She didnt know why exactly she felt like he was telling the truth, maybe it was as he stared into her eyes and she stared into his she saw exhaustion. It could of been the look of desperation written all over his face has he pleaded her to believe him, and just maybe was it the broken look in his eyes that spoke to her indicating defeat. Maybe she believed him because looking in her own eyes she knew she has that same broken look. She can't narrow down anyone reason she felt that way so she just decided that all of them made up her feeling of believing a stranger.

Not knowing what to say she blurts out the first thing that comes to mind. "Was my door seriously unlocked?" Her eyes widen out of the words that came spewing out of her mouth but at the same time she was curious.

Tristin does a double take hearing her speak and how calm it was scaring him, not that he would ever admit "Yeah." He trails off in a very cautious voice. She nods her head to the information.

"How long has this been happening for?"  She says still in her calm voice. She's surprised with how well she's handling the situation. She knows if it was anyone else they would have a baseball bat and ready to attack.

"November, at least once a week." Its December. Giving her a minute to digest the information he also had a question on his mind "How long have you've been down here?"

"That's my room," She points her thumb behind her where her room is "I don't know how I haven't heard you. When do you come in?"

"About 12:00" That makes sense she needed to finish the book or she wouldn't be able to ever to go to sleep so it was her cheat night to go to sleep late. It obviously got awkward when they both got the information they wanted. Lydia watches as he bundles up to go into the cold, while this is happening Lydia puts herself in his shoes. If she was him she wouldn't want to go into the cold and wait a few more hours.

"You can stay" She speaks up in a soft voice.

"What?" Making sure he heard that right.

"You can stay." He heard her right. Why though? He brok- Entered into her house and yet she's calm and letting him stay instead of being grateful and shutting his mouth like any other person would do he spoke.

"Why?"

"Would I rather have you somewhere else? Yes. Would it make me feel better? God yes, but for whatever reason I believe you." She says while making eye contact so she makes sure she's not lying. "Just because I'm letting you stay however long you need tonight doesn't mean I want you coming back. You'll have to find a new place. Sorry." She says looking down. Lydia has the tendency to apologize even when she does good.

Before she turns around to bolt into her room she tells him one thing. "Try and be quite. If you were we wouldn't be having this discussion." With that she heads to her bed.

Once she's in her room with the door closed Tristin sits down in confusion. Why would somebody do that? As he attempts to come up with different answers he decided not to dwell on it and just savor the warmth he's been granted.

The whole reason Lydia stayed up a little later is so her mind wouldn't be wandering when it was time to go to sleep but that was pointless, sure she completely forgot about the book but that didn't help the fact she had a stranger in the room next to her, it just made her restless until she heard scratching indicating he left could she finally fall asleep with the last thing on her mind that Ryder and Steph broke up.
