"But what if it doesn't work?"

"Matthew, relax. Just focus. It works, I promise."

"But what if I don't focus hard enough?"

"You have got this, I know you."

"Gilbert I'm not so sure.."

"Just try!"

Ivan listened from the doorway of the den. After having learned that Gilbert, too, was an angel and far more experienced, talked the albino into giving Matthew lessons on how to control the things he heard and felt.

For the most part everything was going well, except for the lesson of the day. Focus.

The key was to focus on controlling his own mind. Especially after they came to the conclusion that there was evil forces messing with his brain.

"Gilbert it isn't working!"

"Well if you'd stop looking at Ivan and try.." Gilbert mumbled under his breath, earning and slap to the stomach from Matthew.

"Leave me alone, it makes me feel safe!"

"Safety isn't always going to be there, Matthew."

"I know.."

Things went silent for several minutes until, "Hey Gil?"

"Ja?"

"I hear my brother some times but he isn't in hell.. Is there a possibility he could be speaking or am I hallucinating?"

A pause, "There is a possibility he is speaking to you, ja, sure. If he's practiced enough definitely."

That caught Ivan's attention. If he was hearing his brother, why wasn't his brother doing anything to help his problem. To be fair, the kid wasn't around to help though.

Several hours of the lesson continued, consisting mostly of Matthew staring at his client and having a fit when he couldn't do what he was told he was supposed to.

As the session closed, Gilbert seemed worn out, and Matthew... Matthew seemed somewhat normal. His eyes were brighter, he had some bounce to his walk.. Ivan liked it. Even though he hadn't known the other for long, he had grown quite fond and missed the way he was the first day he showed up.

Bright, happy, and a childlike innocence were what made Matthew.. Matthew. It was that ambition to do best for others rather than himself that brought Ivan to his knees for anything the boy would need.

Sure the blond was his guardian. But as long as needed, Ivan would always be there to protect the younger.

"I will be seeing you guys around, ja? Matthew, practice for me. And stop staring at Ivan."

That had been a common phrase since the session started. It wasn't that Ivan minded Matthew using him as a support system. It made him feel trusted. The issue came around to where the boy would need to focus to protect himself, and that was something Ivan was worried for. What if Matthew would stay dependent on a support system to be there for him?

"I'm trying, I'm trying. I'll see you soon as well, Gilbert. You may be dismissed. I have something important to ask Ivan anyway."
And with Matthew's little wave of a hand, Gilbert was on his way.

"Something important to speak to me about?" Ivan would admit that it sounded serious, and it worried him a bit. What if he didn't have the answers, what if he couldn't do much to put the child's mind at ease?

"If you're a mechanic, someone who works on cars, why don't you just fix your car? Why do we walk everywhere?"

Having humored the Russian, a hearty laugh was quick to errupt from his throat.

"It's not that I can't, nor that I wouldn't want to. I just prefer to walk everywhere, fresh air for me and it gives you something to focus on, Like Gilbert said."

A very playful snort came from the boy. "Oh, haha, That's so funny. No seriously, I think having a car would be much easier."

"Then why don't you fly us everywhere, that way we don't walk and I don't fix a car."

"You're heavy."

--------

The two shared a pretty calm day for the first time since Matthew began having problems.

They watched several movies with one another, making it a semi-family night. Needless to say, the majority of their popcorn was in Matthew's stomach before they were even ten minutes into their movies. He couldn't resist the buttery greatness, okay?

At some point, Ivan had fallen asleep, and it was only a matter of time before Matthew noticed. And noticed. And noticed.

Ivan's feature seemed sweeter, calmer. There was nothing on his mind but sweet dreams and it dropped the look of constant threat.

Matthew's fingers slowly made their way to his cheek, brushing them over the skin in a tender way. They made their way down to trace the outline of Ivan's jaw.

It wasn't sharp, but it wasn't dull either. Matthew found that Ivan had just the perfectly shaped jaw.

The fingers moved to cup his chin, and then over Ivan's lips. Slightly chapped but soft at the same time. Their pale pink color making Matthew wonder.

After they lingered, he gave Ivan's nose a little tap before curling up at his side. He didn't want to wake the other up and have to explain what He was doing.

He wondered what he would look like if he wasn't in his child form.

Would he have been handsome? Would his face be perfectly shaped, and have the softness of a little baby?
Would his face still have a childish charm if he was older?

His thoughts trailed off, his eyes closing and his brain shutting down, and his breaths becoming even.

And the last thing on his mind was what happened after he had fallen asleep.

Ivan's eyes had opened, a smile across his face. He had felt the whole thing, had been awake for it all. And it left him to wonder.

Hello my amazing angels! My deepest apologies on the lateness of this.
Court dates and losing family and almost losing my sister has been hell!
It isn't the best and I know I could do better but I hope this does it until I can find a better chapter to write. I love you guys.
