"You can do this!"These were the words that Chrissy was repeating like a mantra while standing in front of the tall and intimidating building which is supposed to be her new school.
Almost like every other student, even Chrissy was a bundle of nerves who was going through the whole 'what ifs' questions.
What if no one likes here?
What if she does not like here?
What if she embarrasses herself by doing something stupid?
What if she is not able to make friends?
What if-
No.
Chrissy did not let these questions get to her. Sending a quick prayer to the man above, begging to let her first day go through easily; Chrissy joined the huge crowd of people wearing similar uniforms as her and entered the school campus.
The campus or the premises were not as big as her previous school and it somewhat felt claustrophobic.
After calming her mind, she removed the instructions paper she was emailed a day prior and searched for the floor where the seniors were to assemble.
The new school 'St. Lawrence' is a private school which has students being sorted into classes according to the subjects they choose.
All senior years were to assemble in the auditorium so that they are informed of their class number.
As soon as Chrissy neared the auditorium after asking for directions a couple of times, she halted at the threshold; wide-eyed being overwhelmed by the massive crowd that was gathered. There were about hundreds of people who were chatting animatedly.
Chrissy found a seat near the front where mostly all the students were avoiding. She didn't want to find a seat where there would be more crowd.
Soon the whole crowd settled down and the principal entered followed by his Head of Departments. After a short orientation and introductory speech, the Heads started reading out groups of students and the class they were allotted.
While she was waiting for her name to be called she noticed a boy who was making his way to a his group. He was making really weird hand gestures and walking in a strange manner which may give the impression of being 'cool' but were absolutely unpleasant and awfully forced acting.
She did not realize that she was staring as the boy supposedly 'sauntered' his way until she heard a smooth voice whisper next to her ear.
"That's Jason Tyler. He is what people call the epitome of 'cool' but I call that bullshit. It honestly looks like he has something stuck in his butt."
Chrissy jumped at the voice and turned to look at the speaker. Next to her sat a girl with dark brown hair, brown and black-rimmed eyes, tan skin and healthy figure. Chrissy didn't know that she was sitting next to her until she made her presence known.
"Uh...yeah" was all Chrissy could say. She mentally smacked her head for her foolish response.
"Hi! My name is Abby Gale Jameson. Not Abigale. Two separate words, okay? So, Are you new?" she asked.
"I'm Christine but you can call me Chrissy. And yes I'm new here.", Chrissy politely replied.
"Oh that's good! I'll show you around here. I've been stuck here for six years." Abby says her shoulders stumped, her face close to remorseful.
This got Chrissy curious.
"Why do you say it like that? Is it that bad?" Chrissy asked.
Abby shakes her head and laughs."No it's not that bad. I just get bored around here but I know you will like being here."
Chrissy smiles "I hope so."
Before she could say anything Chrissy heard her name being called. She said a short goodbye to Abby but it wasn't needed as her name was called too. They both walked up to the supervisor who was giving out the schedules and the room number. Abby later informed her that the class would be her permanent class and that she would be having the same classmates for the entire year.
This did surprise her because in her previous school the teachers were given fixed classes and students were supposed to change classes but over here everything was the opposite.
Change.
For the time Chrissy appreciated change. Albeit it was not that drastic or big but it made a difference to her. She didn't want to repeat what happened in her sophomore and junior year.
She wanted to move on and let the past be where it should be. In the past.
With Abby at her side, Chrissy made her way to her new classmates.
