When Chrissy woke up the next day, she did not bother to check her phone. The first thought that crossed her mind was if he was alright. She expected a strong reason as to why he couldn't make it. She was worried if something happened to him. She had this terrible foreboding that something is wrong but she quickly dismissed it.
She was being silly, wasn't she?
After doing all her morning duties, she left her room for breakfast. On entering the kitchen she saw her mother making waffles. Her favorite chocolate waffles.
For almost the entire day Chrissy found herself engaged in some of the other sorts of work. It was almost evening by the time she came up to her room to see her phone buzzing continuously.
There were fourteen missed calls from an unknown number and one text from Samuel.
Ignoring the missed calls, she opened the text.
'I'm so sorry sweetheart. Please help me, I need you"
help? what kind?
She let out a horrified gasp when she saw the time the message was sent. it was just about the time she had returned home.
What help is he talking about?
Why couldn't he come yesterday?
what if something happened to him?
What if she is too late to help him...?
Before she could find the answers, her phone started ringing. It was an unknown number.
"Hello?" she said.
"Am I speaking to Chrissy?" A rough and manly voice asked.
"Yes, you are. May I know who this is?"
"Hello Ms. Chrissy, My name is Doctor Haynes. I'm from the New Hope hospital. Your acquaintance Mr. Samuel Fertado was admitted late yesterday evening with severe injuries to his right leg. We suspect this to be a hit-and-run case. He is currently resting but needs to be here for further observation. We could not retrieve any contacts from his cellphone except the message he sent you last night." He said, "May I know his relation to you?"
Chrissy was unable to speak. None of the doctor's words registered in her mind after 'severe injuries'. Her mind was on overdrive but still, it couldn't respond to her. Her Samuel was hurt and she didn't know. He was hurt last night and till now he was alone in a hospital with no one by his side. Slowly as the situation started to sink in her heart started beating faster. The panic and worry started to set in. she runs a wobbly hand through her hair and bit her lip to avoid the tears from flowing.
Her mind was foggy and her chest heavy. All the possible scenarios started flashing through her eyes and...
"...ssy? Are you there? ma'am, you need to calm down. The patient is stable..."
Stable. He is stable. Nothing is wrong with him. The weight on her chest slowly started to decrease.
"I will have to ask you again ma'am. How are you related to Samuel Furtado?" The doctor asked again.
"I...I am his...fr-friend.." She spoke softly.
"Alright, madam. If you are in contact with his parents, kindly let them know. If you wish to meet the patient then the timings are four p.m to eight p.m."
Chrissy thanked him and cut the call. She looked at the clock and saw it was only six in the evening. she could still go there. There is no doubt that she will go. Neither did she have his parent's number nor her younger sister's.
With that, she started getting ready to go to the hospital.
