"Ma! I'm going. Please lock the doors. Bye!" Chrissy shouts and runs out of the front door after hearing a faint 'bye honey' from the house.
Quickly taking her car, she drives to the station in a hurry. Chrissy woke up very late today and feared that she might miss her usual early morning train to school.
Some people have asked Chrissy that despite having a car why doesn't she take it to school. There are only two reasons: if she does drive the car to school it's going to make her a total of one hour and fifteen minutes to reach with traffic and she doesn't have that much patience or time. Secondly, trains are way too fast than a car and the station is close to her school so traveling from the station to the school was not a worry at all.
Quickly making it to the parking lot and parking the car, Chrissy ran towards the exit, towards the station. She didn't worry about parking tickets as she had a parking slot card which allowed her to park her car for a long time once a day.
On reaching the platform, she noticed how breathless she was. She was in a hurry and didn't even notice that she was panting badly. The train had not come yet so she plopped herself on a bench and took her head in her hands and bent down, the back of her hands touching her knees.
After a couple of minutes of deep breathing, she finally calmed down and looked up. The train was late by ten minutes and would be arriving any minute now.
Suddenly sensing a presence next to her she looked to her left and saw the most beautiful set of hazel eyes she ever saw. Those hazel eyes sparkled with anonymous mischief and demanded total attention.
Chrissy jumped in her seat, her hand flying to her chest, her heartbeat increasing yet again.
"Damn it! You scared me! Don't do that ever again!" She said to the boy sitting next to her.
The boy gave out a deep chuckle. "Sorry for scaring you. It wasn't my intention. I was just seeing how much tired you became by just running from the station entrance till the platform...which might I add is only a few meters." He said with humor glinting in his eyes.
Chrissy groaned. "I know I'm out of shape, okay? No need to rub it in my face." She grumbled under her breath.
The boy let out yet another chuckle. Before he could say anything, they heard the loud horn of the train and scampered to their feet and went to stand among the unusually big crowd of people who were waiting to climb in, as the train pulled up.
Chrissy started making her way towards her usual compartment but a hand caught hers. She turned to see the boy holding her hand and pulling her towards the compartment which had a comparatively lesser crowd waiting on. It was the men's compartment.
Before Chrissy could even protest she was dragged in with the boy along with the rest of the crowd. The train was more crowded than normal and it struck Chrissy unusual.
The boy found themselves a seat in the middle of the compartment and gave Chrissy the window seat.
"This is the men's compartment! How can I be here?" She told the boy she has been crushing for long, nearly in hysterics.
"Relax Chrissy. It's okay. Did you see the crowd near the women's compartment? There was no way you would have been able to make it without a lot of pushing and shoving" He said after placing his bag on the overhead panel. The train had started moving.
His explanation was adequate enough. It was true, Chrissy would never be able to make it in, and then she would have missed her train. She stood up and sat her bag next to his and plopped down on the seat.
"You're right. Thank you" She said giving him a big smile. The boy just stared at her with a small smile on his face. He said nothing but stared at her. Chrissy took the chance to check him out. He wore a red and black check shirt which was half-tucked into his black jeans and he had black shoes on. His hair was ruffled in the perfect 'out-of-the-bed' manner and his smooth skin glistening in the rays of the sunrise that was being projected by the mirror.
When Chrissy looked at him again, she noticed he was still staring at her without saying anything.
'Okay, now this is weird' Chrissy thought.
She squirmed in her seat and coughed a couple of times and looked at him. He seemed to break out of whatever trance he was in and looked away.
Amused, Chrissy could see the boy next to her, as heat crawled up his neck and tainted his cheeks. He scratched his hair and looked at her with a sheepish smile.
"Um...Sorry, I zoned out on you." He said.
I laugh. "It's fine. What were you thinking about?"
"You," He said with a small smile on his face. The smile on Chrissy's face wiped off and she looked at the boy with wide eyes, unsure whether she heard him right.
"What?" She asked confused.
"Oh...uh...I mean I was thinking of that day when we met? I had found your scarf? Remember?" He said.
Ohh
"Of course I do. I remember it." She said smiling fondly at the memory. She doubted if she will ever be able to forget the small exchange they had among each other.
"And I also remember that I forgot to ask your name." She said.
"Well, madam. I, Samuel Furtado, am at your service." He said and paired up his words with an elaborate bow.
Chrissy threw her head back and laughed. "And I am Christene Hall, your queen. Bow down, you peasant." Chrissy said in a voice she had heard many queens and princesses in movies talk in. Samuel started laughing.
For the first time, Chrissy and Sam enjoyed their train journey. They would crack lame jokes and laugh at it. One time a lady had come over to tell them to shut up but they ignored her. The woman went back to her seat huffing and grumbling.
Chrissy never wanted the journey to end and neither did Samuel. Both of them got to know a lot about each other that day and were mildly surprised by the array of things they had in common.
While coming out of the train when they reached the destination, they exchanged numbers, bid goodbye, and walked opposite directions.
Chrissy towards her high school and Samuel towards his university.
Neither of them was successful in keeping the wide smile off their face for the entire day.

Can I just say that I love them both? They are so damn adorable!
