Chapter 15 :

I wait under my porch for the rain to pass and for the silver Porsche to arrive in Jocelyn's driveway.

He's not here like he usually is.

I bite my lip and can't help but wonder if Chase is mad at me? Maybe it's because I yelled at him or maybe it's because I went off with Francis? Ugh, why do people have to be so confusing!

"I don't think he's coming," Maia's voice.

To be honest I didn't even realize she pulled up onto the curb. I hurry into the shotgun of her small Toyota. "You go to school this late? First period starts in twenty minutes."

Maia presses the gas so hard it makes me press against the seat more than I want. "I'm never late though."

I spend the rest of the drive clutching on to something rather than talking. Maia's reckless driving doesn't even compare to Chase's smooth driving.

As I stare out the window like I always do, I can't help but wander over to the dream I had last night. It's honestly rare for me to dream of the past, I usually dream of demons or something morbid.

The five minute warning bell rings as Maia pulls into the sophomore parking lot. She looks at me before grabbing my wrist and completely dashing into the school.

I swear she ran the whole parking lot in less than three seconds. I finally catch my breathe and I quickly pat down the hair that has come up.

"Did you- was that-"

"Werewolf speed?" Maia winks before slipping down the hallway to get to chemistry.

I look at Chase's table and there's an empty seat for Chase and Jane. Only Emily Asher and Austin Miller are at that table.

After a long and boring day of high school, I meet Maia by the lockers. School kind of sucks when the rain keeps reminding you of an unwanted dream.

"We're getting coffee," Maia smiles as she checks her pale pink lipstick in her review mirror.

"You're a horrible driver," I laugh hysterically more out of fear that she might kill us both.

"That's probably why they shouldn't give permits to fifteen year olds and a license to a sixteen year old," she smirks as she continues to check her makeup.

"Keep your eyes in the road!" I feel like I sound like a mom being overprotective of her child.

Maia just laughs in response as she speeds up. Thankfully we finally get to the coffee shop, also known as Starbucks.

As we enter the strong smell of cocoa beans and baked goods hit me. There's a small hum of voices that belong to people instead of the demons I'm used too.

"So why exactly are we here?" I ask Maia as she heads into the line of people going to the counter.

"I always come here after school," I notice Maia's yellowish eyes eyeing a blonde boy from behind the counter.

The blonde boy looks up from his work and gives Maia a flirtatious, wide grinned smile.

"Is it because of him?" I nod my head toward the boy giving a costumer their coffee.

Maia's lips raise up into a smile and rosiness appears on her cheeks. "His names Trevor. He's the Alpha of my pack."

I study him for a while. His muscular arms, height, and structured face clearly indicate that he's not sixteen but in fact older.

"He's a senior," Maia answers like she can read my mind. She elegantly leans over the counter and rest her chin in both her hands. "Oh Trevor!"

I bite my lip to hold back a laugh. She's such a flirt.
