Chapter 18 :
It's Friday night and Jane, Chase, Francis and I are huddled together in front of his house. Chase just had to tell Jackson and Jane that Francis and I have planned to go to Paris, so now they're coming too. Great..
I love at Chase with a different light in my hazel eyes. I basically broke down in front of him, and he sat with me while I did. He told me he cares about me but there's still something tugging at me not to entirely trust him.
"It's ready," Jackson's voice calls from inside his house.
All four of us stop whatever we were doing and start to head inside. If it's even possible, it's more windy in here than it is outside.
Chase immediately shuts and locks his front door and steps next to me. Next to the portal, Jackson is standing with a tired expression and next to him is a wide awake Jocelyn.
The wind coming out from the portal is making my caramel colored hair fly in every direction. The blinding white light make my hazel eyes water and I can literally hear the small purple sparks crackling in the wind.
"So where does this thing actually lead?" I ask as I pull my jacket closer to my body.
"Brother Blood," Jocelyn answers. "It's right beneath the Eiffel Tower and if you follow the catacombs with writing in it, you'll be able to find The Terror."
Jackson stumbles for something in his pocket and I can see he pulls out money. "If it takes more time than you guys thought, here's 200 dollars in case you need to rent a hotel room," Jackson hands the money to Chase.
He shoves the money in his back pocket of his jeans as he mumbles a lousy thanks.
Francis takes a small step ahead of me. "You all ready?"
I nod and match my legs with his. When I'm close enough I reach my hand through the white light and instantly pull it back out. "Why is it so... cold!"
Jane giggles at me and her and Chase step up at the same time. "Because it's freezing in Paris right now."
Chase is the first to step through and Jane obviously follows as a second. Francis looks at me with his piercing blue eyes and grabs my hand in his. He takes the first step in and I follow still while holding his hand.
As I step in my whole body goes cold, including the hand that was holding Francis's. It feels as though the wind and ocean waves are hitting every inch of your skin making goosebumps arise and hairs to stand on end. A faint hum of bells in the distance.
Then it's like time has wrapped itself around me and I land on a flight of stairs. I gasp when I see Brother Blood, it's the same place that I saw Chase in, when Cecelia and Jackson picked him up.
It has the same strange writing on the walls and symbols of stars, moons and dragons on the circular ground. The only thing I notice now that I haven't before is the black tunnels spiraling along the edges of the room.
Chase leads the way and I'm quick to follow. As we get closer to the black tunnels, I can see that skulls are smashed into the walls which lead the way deeper.
"Jocelyn said the catacomb with writing, right?" Jane speaks as she twirls her head full of black hair around. "Because al I see is bones and no writing."
At first I see the same thing, but when I concentrate scribbles begin to form on the catacomb to the left. My feet lead me there and when my eyes land on the scribbles they slowly fork into words.
