Chapter 28 :

This time around, I land on my feet on the cold concrete roads that belong to New York. My hair continues to sway in the late night wind even though the portal has closed behind us. I pull my jacket closer to my chest as I shiver in the night wind.

"If you guys want you could spend the night at the Vamps hide out," Francis offers as he points behind him.

I remember this alley way... it's the same alley way where Francis bit me and where I saw Leondro's hand writing on the brick walls. The Hotel of Blood is standing tall but no lights are illuminated from inside. As I stare out of the alley way, I notice there are no cars on the road, no people and nothing what so ever.

"I think we can walk home," my words surprise me as they come out my mouth.

At first I hear nothing at all, then I hear everything all at once. I hear the footsteps pounding against the road and the screams crying out for help. I hear the own scratching against my brain as the horse voices begin to rise up in my head.

I feel my knees begin to buckle until I feel his hand tap my shoulder. Then everything goes silent again. "Are you alright Bree?" Chase's voice drowns out all the unwanted noise that has arrived in my head.

We turn a corner to get out the alleyway with Jane right behind us. "D-did you hear that?" My voice comes out much more frantic than I expected.

"Hear what?" Chase looks around the completely vacant streets. He stops walking and says "something's not right."

Jane nearly face plants into his back before she quickly steadied herself and looks around. "You're right, New York is never this empty."

I bite my lip as I studied the streets. The same wailing screams appear in the back of my head like an annoying ticking clock in the silence. Some smell, like burning tires, begin to creep its way up into my nostrils. Around the three of us, black smoke begins to form. The smoke slowly takes the shape of abstract figures which soon turn into creatures I'm fairly too familiar with.

Demons.

I stare at the ten creatures who have formed from the black smoke. These demons are all regular ones, Hell Hounds and Raveners.

Slowly the ground begins to shake before I'm plummeted into the sky. A scream escapes my throats before I land on my hands and knees on the levitating piece of road.

I look below me as the demons begin to snarl at us and I nearly faint when I see that we're fifty feet above the ground. My eyes widen before I squeeze them shut and roll up into a ball.

"Jane, take Bree somewhere," I hear Chase's blurry voice through the screams in my head.

I hear a loud sound before I feel Jane's touch on my shoulders shaking the voices to crawl around in my skull. "Bree, lets go!"

She drags me up and when I open my eyes I nearly fall off the levitating ground from astonishment.

Janes true form.

Her black hair is more silky than usual and so are her perfectly marbled gray eyes. Jane's wings are enormous and gorgeously patterned. The edges seem to have a silver aura and the rest are in a beautiful pink and white tribal pattern.

Quickly she dashes at me and grabs my hands. Soon both of my feet are off the ground and I'm flying! Literally flying!

"STOP!" I scream and my voice echoes off the buildings. "We can't leave Chase!" I begin to squirm in her grip but her hands don't loosen on me at all.
