Chapter 35

Leaning against the truck of the tree she sat under, Sarah sighed. Finally the Kitchens were back to semi-order. The Baker had returned yesterday in a fluster. His wife had gone into labor earlier than expected. The Cook had put him straight to work, and then he gave Sarah an extra rest day to thank her for her help with all of the baking.

So here she was spending it hiding out in the orchard instead of spending it with her friends. It was almost lunch time. Would the Cook come looking for her? Or was she getting a day off from taking Jareth's meals, too?

Sighing once more, she glanced up at the leaves above her. If the Cook wanted her, he would have to come and get her. Today she was planning to relax and enjoy her day off. Closing her eyes, she began to drift off to sleep.

"Here you are. I've been trekking all over the Grounds looking for you."

Opening her eyes, Sarah frowned. She turned her head towards the voice, "you said I had the day off."

Breathing heavily, the Cook came in view. He stopped for a moment. Then he continued walking towards her, mumbling under his breath. When he finally reached her, he was bright red, well he would have been if not for his green skin.

"The King is demanding that you deliver his lunch."

"It's my rest day."

"I told him, but he said that it didn't matter. Lunch is ready. You just take it to him, and then you can continue your day."

She was going to have a nice long chat with a certain Goblin King. Slowly, Sarah stood up and faced him, "do you need me to watch you prepare the food?"

Shaking his head, the Cook held up a picnic basket, "His Majesty asked for a picnic. He's in the Rose Garden. I'm fairly sure he is with Lady Sarah."

Sarah took the basket from him, "more than likely after I've finished with my delivery, I'll return here."

The Cook nodded, "be careful out here. We aren't exactly sure how those idiots got into the Labyrinth."

Sarah nodded, "I know, and I will."

He gave one last nod before leaving her alone under the tree. More than likely returning to the Kitchens.

Sighing, she moved towards the exit of the orchard. Now where was the Rose Garden?

XOXOXOXOX

Everything was ready. The spell around the perimeter to block anyone from looking into the Rose Garden was of course a wonderful idea. Now all that was needed was for her to get here.

Jareth sighed as he began to pace. At least, the Baker had been innocent. That still didn't solve the riddle of who was helping the enemy. He still hadn't discovered who it was, which irritated him greatly. He had gone through almost every single new resident in the last century. Most were hiding in the city worried about their families.

He stopped pacing as the sound of footsteps began approaching. Jareth turned towards them just as "Jenna" rounded the corner of the hedge wall. He truly hated her disguise, but soon it would be off, even if it was only going to be for a short time.

She walked towards him, carrying a picnic basket, "here's your lunch, Your Majesty."

"What's wrong?" He didn't wish to address her just yet. Then as she reached him, Jareth felt the spell take affect.

She held out the basket, "you do know that it was my rest day today?"

He took the basket from her, "Sarah, I thought you wouldn't mind spending time with me."
