Gaining Entry to A Child's Fortress

I had to give it to this kid, he was more stubborn than I was when taking a shower and that wasn't exactly easy to beat. We all huddled and tried to come up with some plans, then I spoke up and said "hey guys did you listen to how he sounded? he boasted about his 'kingdom' and he bragged about being better, maybe if we feed into his hand he might let us in!" we all agreed as it was the best shot we had. Then as if right on que he spoke "ah I see you are still here 'hero' so what reason do you have for not removing yourselves off my domain?" I smiled confidently and said "us humble travelers wish to see the glory of your kingdom, may we enter?" I heard him ponder his answer before speaking "I suppose it isn't all that bad that I have some company, but don't try a single thing, I am more than prepared to deal with the three of you, I am opening the gate now, I have my eyes on you" just then the gate opened. when the dust settled from the door scraping against the floor we saw a boy with a sword on his back and a crossbow in his hands aimed at me, he wasn't lying about being prepared. I immediately put my hands up and so did the others. This boy seemed different than any other  though, I couldn't pin it down though. This boy was shorter than me, but taller than Betameche. He had blond hair that was much like mine but shorter, he also had tiny but noticeable freckles that dotted his face. He had this smirk on his face, it stirred up something inside me, I didn't know what but I wasn't worried on that. He said "so my humble travelers what do we have here?" I spoke up for everyone else and said "I am Arthur, This Is Princess Selenia of the First Kingdom and this is her brother Betameche" he lowered his weapon and we heard some weird scream. He went pale and he dropped his smirk. Beta was the first to ask a question "what's wrong?" I said "Isn't it obvious, someone is in danger!" I yelled about to run but after I turned around I was spun back around and shoved in the gate as were the others. The gate was closed immediately and he rushed us to this big house that was against the wall. I was surprised and said "why did you do that?! Someone is in danger!" He turned off the lights to everything via a panel on the wall flipped a switch that was labeled 'LockDown'. He turned back to me and whispered "keep it down, that was no person, That was a Reaper" I was confused and Beta asked "what's a Reaper". This seemed to disturb the boy even more and he said "Reapers are... Reapers are the vengeful wandering spirits of those who died here, they are the remnants of my people. They lure you by using their last cries for help to make it seem like they are in danger" then Beta asked "well what happens next?" the boy replied "that is up for anyone to guess, what is definitive is that you don't come back". In an attempt to lighten the mood I smiled and asked "so what's your name?" He said "My name Is Max, and I am the last of my kind" this took us back and Selenia asked "your kind? what kind" he smiled like he was delivering the greatest speech. "I am the last one of the legendary Ancients"
