VI. His Voice (Part 1)

Over what felt like days, conversations filtered through her mind to the beat of a heart monitor. And when consciousness penetrated her brain, she just woke up, with a splitting headache, and her ears buzzing.

Jasmine opened her eyes but she couldn't see anything. Everything was black. It feels like the room was enveloped in a black dimension.

"Jas! Thank God, you've wake up!" Boses iyon ng kaibigan niya, rinig na rinig niya iyon sa kaniyang tabi.

"Sobrang nag-alala kami sa'yo!" Pagpapatuloy nito. "Ilang araw ka ng comatose! Those two! Kung hindi dahil sa kanila ay—"

Jasmine couldn't hear what Janine was saying anymore. Lumakbay na ang kaniyang diwa, lahat ng mga nangyari bago sila maaksidente ay pumasok sa kaniyang utak.

Everything.

From their first meeting. His courtship. Her love for him. Her dream wedding. It was too fast. Too surreal. But it made her happy.

Happy to the point that she didn't even see the signs. And even if she saw the signs, she had chosen to ignore it because she thought Henry loves her so much. That he would never ever betray her.

But no. Everything was a farce. Henry didn't even love her like the love she felt for him. His feelings was just that. Lukewarm.

He had betrayed her. The worst of it? Sa bestfriend niya pa. Hindi niya lubos maisip na kayang gawin ng lalaki iyon sa kaniya. Na kaya nitong iputan ang ulo niya kasama ang kaibigan niya. Pero nang makita niya ang katotohanan ay halos sumabog ang puso niya sa takot.

How could it be like that? She could clearly hear the things that she once held dear in her heart were in the process of being shattered. This kind of shattering sound made her feel afraid and panicked.

Humikbi siya, sa paghikbing iyon ay tumigil sa pagsasalita ang kaibigan niya.

"A–Anong...Jasmine?"

Ibinuka niya ang bibig upang magsalita ngunit maski isang salita ay walang lumabas sa bibig niya. She couldn't even speak because of the pain she felt at the moment. She could only sob and let the tears streammed down her face.

"Jasmine?" The voice was carried with a sob.

Tumagilid ang kaniyang ulo upang makita ito ngunit kadiliman lamang ang sumalubong sa kaniya. Ilang beses niyang kinurap ang kaniyang mga mata subalit ni anino ng kaibigan ay wala siyang makita.

She wondered, what was wrong with her? Hindi siya makakita. Ibig sabihin ba ay...bulag na siya?

"I..." She gaped and was tongue-tied, all her thoughts flew away from her brain.

For some time, she did not know what to do. She tried to control her tears, but they were beyond her control. Instead, more tears dropped rapidly.

"B–Bakit?"

"H–Hindi ako makakita."

"A–Are you sure?"

Jasmine couldn't speak because of her own pain, she could only sob and gasps. Then, she heard a series of hurried footsteps, opening and closing of the door.

The room is quiet for a moment. Then it was like lots of people came into the room. Naramdaman niyang hinawakan siya ng kung sinoman ang kaniyang palapulsuhan. Sumunod ay in-examine ang kaniyang mga mata. Then they said some messy words.
