*ELENA*
I inhaled deeply as my eyes shot open. I felt cold. All I saw was darkness. Is this hell? I suddenly remembered saying goodbye to all my loved ones. Wait! My life was linked to Bonnie's. Does this mean Bonnie is dead?
I used my useless human strength to just about open the coffin. "Can rise from the dead," I shrugged, "a new addition to my resume."
*STEFAN*
I sat in the living room of the infamous Salvatore house with a Buorbon in my hand as I watched the roaring fire. I haven't been doing myself lately. It's been twenty years since everything changed. 20 years since Elena's death. 18 years since Caroline left me for Alaric whilst I was doing my year's service for Arcadius... or Cade as I call him because I guess when you spend a year with someone you form a weird sort of bond. 8 years since I last saw Damon who is more than happy to continue his duty of serving Cade. 3 years since Bonnie and Enzo left Mystic Falls to live in Paris.
20 years since I can actually say I had my sanity. I mean, my humanity is hanging on by a thread but I just can't let go again.
My thoughts were interrupted by my phone vibrating. "ENZO" appeared as the caller ID. I was almost excited to hear another voice that was not my own. I haven't heard a familiar voice in a long time. I answered, "Enzo. Haven't heard from you since-"
"Bonnie's dead," He blubbered through the tears.
I shot up from my previously reclined position and sat up straight. Bonnie's dead? How? "I don't understand. What happened to her?"
"I'm on a little off road. There must have been ice. I skidded and the car flipped. Stefan," he sobbed, "The love of my life is lying dead in my arms. I don't know what to do."
"Call the ambulance," I stated, "I have to do something but I'll call you soon enough. Okay?"
"Okay," he said with a shaky voice, "Okay, I can do this. See ya."
I hung up. I hurried over to the coat rack which only had two jackets; one was mine and the other was... mine again. I grabbed one and put it on. I grabbed my keys and off I went. The long drive to Elena begins.
*4 hours later*
I pulled up to the old trailer. I got out of Damon's car. I guess I really can't let my brother go but this is the one person that will bring his humanity back. I fumbled with the keys until i found one for the industrial strength padlock Damon placed on the door of the trailer. I unlocked it and opened it.
I looked at her as she sat on the floor in tears. She looked up at me with hope in her eyes. "Stefan!" She exclaimed. She ran and jumped from the raised trailer at me. I caught her in a hug. "It's so great to see you!"
"You're the first familiar face I've seen in a long time," I closed my eyes, just to appreciate the moment. My soul mate in my arms after I spent over a year without seeing anybody.
I put her down. She nervously asked, "Bonnie?"
"Car crash," I nodded, "She's with Enzo in Paris-"
"Enzo?!" she exclamied.
I gulped, "You've missed a lot. Let's just get in the car and head back to Mystic Falls."
She nodded and we both got in the car and I took off away from the small town. She looked at me as I drove and said, "How long have I been...?"
"Dead," I said blandly, "Around 20 years."
She nodded slowly, probably taking in the fact that she was actually alive. She softly spoke, "Bonnie is dead. My best friend is dead."
