When I entered the kitchen, Rosaline was already placing eggs on the pan. She looked up and smiled as I approached the table.

“Need help?”. I asked.

“ No honey, it’s okay. This is just a piece of cake.” She answered cheerfully.

Rosaline has been a loving parent to me and so as Arthur. They were great and cool too. When they took me from the orphanage, they cared for me as if I’m their own. I sometimes wonder if I’m also giving them the love that they deserve.

My thoughts were interrupted when the kitchen door opened and Arthur stepped in. I supposed he had been jogging with the dogs around the neighbourhood.

“God Morning ladies.” He greeted. He kissed me at the top of my head and then hugged Rosaline from behind.  I smiled. I can’t help but to admire the two of them. So loving and thoughtful with each other.

“Well, Kara, What’s your plan for tomorrow?.” Arthur asked when he sat on his chair.  I looked at him, confused.

“What plans?.”

“Plans for your birthday . Don’t tell me you forgot ?.”

“Uh.. ohhh.. my birthday.” I said tonelessly.  So, it’s my birthday tomorrow. Honestly, I really want to forget the date so that I will be free from the pain that it brings with it. Harsh memories just keep on coming back.

“ Yes, honey. Well, do you plan to invite your friends for a pool party or a slumber or should we go out of town and spend the rest of the day there? It’s weekend anyway.” He suggested enthusiastically. I think Arthur’s determined to make this a cheerful one.

“I don’t know but if I were to choose, I would like to have a casual dinner with you.” I answered.

Rosaline and Arthur smiled at each other before looking at me. “How thoughtful of you honey.” Rosaline said, giving me a bear hug.  “But don’t you really want to invite some of your friends? How about Keith?.”

Keith, oh how dumb of me to forget my own best friend. Of course, I’ll invite him.  “It’s okay to invite Keith. The three of you is enough.” I pointed out.

“All right then.” Arthur seemed to understand that I don’t want plenty of guests. Besides, if it’ll be for hours. I’d probably end up boring all my guests.
