I jerked my head and saw how the monster in front of me slowly turned into ashes.

Relief filled my whole body when I saw him, my saviour, standing just behind me. He’s never changed a bit. His face is as beautiful as ever.

I looked up to meet his gaze. His eyes, though bloody red, still hold with them the goodness of his heart. Before I could react, he yanked me to his back. His arms spread wide, protectively, in front of me.

“Traitor! How could you forsaken our kind for such idiocy?.” Said the remaining vampire. His hands now clenched into fists and he’s glaring viciously at my protector.

“I’m not being a fool, Viktor, you know that. I just want you all to stop this nonsense.” My saviour spoke with such a velvet voice.

“What you’re doing, that’s nonsense. Your brother had been trying to reach you for years now. He wants you to join his coven. But what are you doing? You’re such a disgrace.”  I looked at my saviour’s face. His jaws suddenly hardened when he heard what Viktor have said. He didn’t speak for a moment. It seems like he’s weighing all the options.

For a moment I am scared.

What if he changes his mind? What if he decided to give me to this blood thirsty monster?

I moved a step back. If that’s the case then that’s the end of me. I only hoped that Keith would be stuck in traffic so that he won’t die with me tonight.  As if sensing the tension I am feeling, my saviour looked at me then smiled.

“ Trust me.” Then faced the enemy with a protective stance.

“I guess you’ve already chosen your path. I know Stellan will understand if I have to kill you!.” Screamed Viktor and launched himself to my protector.

But the latter is much too strong and fast than him. My saviour stabbed Viktor with his dagger. Thrusting it straight to his heart.

“You won’t get away with this, Kellan.” Viktor said before he turns into ashes.

“I’m sorry.” Kellan whispered. His arms fell to his sides and stood there for a long moment without moving an inch. He seemed to be thinking of something serious.

“Are you all right?.” I asked, reluctantly, when I moved to his side.  He faced me. His movement was graceful.

“ I should be the one asking you that.” His lips curled into a smile that never met his eyes. “Are you all right?.”

“ Yes, I’m fine. Thanks to you.”

“I’m glad to hear that, Kara.”

“You know my name?.” I asked, confused. But he didn’t answer my question. He just stared at the streets ahead of us as if something interesting caught his sight.

“I’d probably be going. Your friend will be here any time soon.” He said and started to walk his way from me.

“No, Kellan. Wait!.” I held him by the wrist though I know it will never hold him there.

“Don’t worry. I’ll be around if you need me.” He said smiling. “I have to go Kara. You don’t want your friend to be asking question, don’t you?.”

 “No, but…”

“It’s alright. There’s no vampire around. Well except me of course.”

“Okay.” And loosened my grip. He started to walk his way but swirled to face me again.

“By the way, HAPPY BIRTHDAY.” Kellan said and gave me another beautiful black rose.

I took it but before I could even thank him, he just vanished into thin air.

Kellan was indeed right. Keith arrived few minutes later. I stuffed the black rose inside my bag before his car stopped in front of me.
