Wanting A Happy Ending - Chapter 3

I stared at my mate as she laughed along to a joke another pack member said, I just wanted to push him away from her, and maybe pass him a few punches...but I can't. I was in no place to.

"I warned you, didn't I?" Bev's voice cut in from behind.

I groaned and turned to the nearest wall and started punching it lightly. I was stupid. I need her alive. I just kept punching the wall, slowly creating a dent in it.

"Adrian, it's not too late. You can still fight for her until the day she stops breathing," Austin spoke from beside Beverly.

I glanced back and fourth between the married couple, then at my giggling mate.

"I- can't."

"And why the hell not?" Bev asked stepping away from Austin for a second.

"She looks so happy with him...they could live a happy life together. I mean think about it. His mate died, and well her mate...denied. They're perfect for each other," I whisper being torn apart by my own thoughts.

"Mads will never be a hundred percent happy with him. With you around, there'll always be a part of her that'd want you."

I sat on the couch and tried to go deep in thoughts...maybe if I left! If I left, and pretend nothing has ever happened...

"Adrian, if I were you, I'd stop thinking whatever you are thinking, cause it's probably a terrible idea which would burry you into a deeper hole," Bev warned giving me a stern look.

I glanced between one of my best friends and my mate. Madi was looking at me, her eyes reflecting my mood.

She traded a few more words with the boy, then skipped out of the house.

"Too deep to be dug back out," I muttered getting up to head upstairs.

Suddenly a bloodcurling screamd burst through the air, making me stop midway from the trip upstairs.

"Holy sh*t! Adrian! Get over here! It's Madi! A truck--it ran into her!"

I froze. That's just bullsh*t. This can't be happening, I turned around and ran out of the house as fast as I can to find her laying on the ground, blood all around her.

My vision was starting to blur, as I took in the scene. I'm going to hunt that driver down, no one hurts my mate and just walks away without a goddamn beating.

My inner wolf growled and pushed to take over, as I was about to shift, Austin yelled at me to stop.

"I've sent others to look for the driver, what's important is Madi needs you. Weather she wants to face it or not, she'd rather wake up to find your face then the rest of us."

"B-but--" I started to protest.

"Adrian, just go bring her to the pack doctor, she's 3 houses down," Beverly said staring at Madi who was starting to bleed more around the head area.

"Oh hell," I muttered as I bent down to pick her up bridal style. I tried my best to elevate her head, so blood wouldn't just keep rushing to her head.

As soon as my hold on her was tight, I ran for the house. Lifting up my leg to support her body, I moved one arm to pound on the door, "Open up, dammit! She's freaking dying!"

Melissa the pack doctor opened the door yawning, but then as soon as she saw Madi in my arms she screamed. "Bloody hell, what happened?! Bring her to the room upstairs on the right, I'll take care of it."

I nodded, then carried my mate upstairs. Her heartbeat sounded weak, and she was unconcious.

Carefully I placed her on the table there. Fu*king curse. I knew it. I knew I shouldn't have even let my heart race for her. I knew as soon as I stepped into the room I was in trouble. Now she could be possibly dying and I can't help. Life is cruel. I should've left. Maybe if I thought of it earlier, now it's too late.

"Adrian, you have to get out of this room, if I'm to help Madison. What I may have to do may possibly make your inner wolf attempt to kill me," Melissa said pointing at the door for me to leave.

I looked at her, then at my mate...for Madison. I walked out of the room, hearing the door click behind me.

If she dies, a part of me dies with her.
