The next day, Ezra was still in hospital. Dr. Thatcher said it would be a long night, as they need to run more tests. I said I'd go straight home to my dad, but as I remembered I had a spare key to Ezra's apartment, I slept there, snuggling into his pillows.
I grabbed spare clothes for Ezra, just incase he needed them and some entertaining books for him of his bookshelf. I stuffed them into a carrier bag and left for the hospital.
I reached the hospital front desk, and it was the same red-haired woman sat at the desk. She smiled at me warmly as I walked past her, towards Ezra's room. I walked in and found him sleeping, slight snores escaping his mouth. I smiled to myself, as I walked over to him, kissing him smoothly on the cheek. As my lips left his face, his eyes flickered open. He chuckled to himself, wiping his eyes as he sat up.
"What're you doing here so early?" He mumbled.
"I came here as soon as I woke up. I'll be here every day until you come home, so you better get used to it," I winked. He laughed and invited me onto the bed with him. I dodged all of the wires that were connected to him and rested my head on his chest.
"Doctor says it's gonna be another long night unless I improve," He huffed, and I looked up at him and stroked his jawline with my pointer finger. "Improve, now!" I laughed, as he kissed my temple lightly.
I interlocked my fingers with his, as I played with his hands. Suddenly, Ezra held my waist underneath the covers, and started to tickle me.
"Ezra, no! Stop!" I giggled, trying to remove his hands from me, but his tickling hastily turned into caressing and kissing.
"Ahem..." Doctor Thatcher said from the corner of the room.
We shot apart, startled, then started to laugh. Dr. Thatcher smiled to himself, as he flicked through papers connected to his clipboard.
"Ezra, you're in luck!" He explained.
I raised my eyebrow.
"You're free to go home, but we also need to discuss future happenings," he added, sitting on the plastic chair beside the hospital bed.
Ezra and me nodded, as Dr.Thatcher gave out medicines to Ezra that he must take them daily, and I told him not to worry, since I would be taking 24/7 supervision. But then again, I had school. Shit. I hadn't thought about that."Ezra, we also need to discuss something else," he turned serious.
"Me and the rest of your doctors suggest you taking Chemotherapie. You don't necessarily have to agree, but we think it's the best choice," Dr.Thatcher said. I grabbed his hand, as a tear fell from my eye.Ezra looked up at me and wiped away the tear with his thumb. "Hey, hey, don't cry, don't cry," he whispered. But I couldn't help it; my tears were falling uncontrollably.
"Dr, could we have some thinking time?" Ezra asked, smiling.
"Of course," he replied, stepping out of the hospital room."I'm sorry..." I said, my tears still falling.
"You don't have to apologize. It's understandable,"
"How the hell are you holding this together, Ezra?"
"Believe me, I'm not,"
I smiled, as he kissed my hand multiple times.I collapsed into his arms, my tears soaking his hospital gown.
"I bought you some clothes from when these awful beeping things are detached from you," I laughed.
His lips cracked into a wobbly smile. He looked at my lips as his connected with mine. I didn't let it get too heated, since it would be quite inappropriate to share a passionate kiss in a hospital.
I pulled apart, as I hopped from the bed.
"I bought you reading material," I exclaimed, holding up 'The Scarlett Letter' and 'To Kill A Mockingbird' , as these were mine and Ezra's favorite books. He chuckled, as I also held up a pair of jogging bottoms and a blue polo shirt, "and some clothes," I smiled.
"Aria, thank you. But we need to talk about my Chemo," Ezra said, breaking the five minutes of happiness. I frowned and sat on the edge of his bed.
"Look, Ezra, I know you don't have to do this Chemo, but it's for the best. Im not saying you have to do it, but it would be better. I don't want to see you in pain or anything. Ever," I whimpered, hesitating and stuttering at a few words. He cracked a smile.
"I'm going to take it. Don't worry, babe," he said, as he invited me aside him once again. I refused, as Thatcher set foot in the room, once again."So...?" He asked.
"I'm taking it," Ezra said, smiling softly.
Thatcher smiled, as he unhooked the machinery from Ezra.
"You're free to go," he exclaimed.
