"Your hair's red, I never noticed that." Negan pointed out as we walked down the road, and I turned my head, throwing him a grin. "Yeah, it's a lot brighter when it's short. My brother's is almost orange." I laughed softly, looking ahead once again as he chuckled along with me. "I wonder how he and his family are doing right now," I commented softly, and his hand found mine as we continued to walk, giving it a gentle reassuring squeeze. "So," I started to say after looking at him from the corner of my eye, "Your wife...what was she like?" I asked, genuinely curious, wanting to know more. He sighed, thinking it over before he replied. "She was...different. She was really conservative, never really cared for anything I took interest in. We got married real young, and it just went downhill from there."
I frowned, not understanding what was so great about this woman. "Why didn't you leave her, if you were unhappy?" He looked at me, stopping in his tracks as he looked up at the sky. "It was...complicated. I ended up having an affair, and when she found out I was going to file for divorce she begged me to keep trying. Then she got sick, and I felt too guilty to leave." I nodded slowly, biting my lip as I carefully planned out my next question. "You said she was gone...is she one of them now?"
He met my gaze, and in a low, almost haunting voice he whispered. "Not anymore." I held his gaze, finding myself stepping closer to him, as if he were a living magnetic force. "Did you love her?" He squinted, most likely finding my question ridiculous. "I think so, but then again...she did say I was incapable of that sort of thing." I reached out, pressing my hands against his chest as I gulped. "I see." He dipped his head, connecting our lips slowly as I closed my eyes, shamelessly wanting to prove his wife wrong.
