Elliot
She had left again. I wasn't phased at all. Milan was one hell of a woman. She had broken the heartbreaker. After she "died" life was hell. I didn't want to be King. I'd kind of given up on life but a few days later I felt a tug at my heart.
Like my soul was returned. After weeks of research I realised that the reason was that she was still there. Alive and breathing. I sighed and walked out of my room with a bottle of whiskey. Man, that bottle is the love of my life.
All of them were sitting patiently at th dining table waiting for me. Tatia was yapping about some actor to Ethan who was staring outside the window and nodding his head at her at times, pretending to be listening.
Emily was on with her family drama. That woman is delusional if she thinks the members of this family care about each other. We're tied by our blood- that's it. I don't need them. And anyway, I'm the only one with brains in this family.
Ezekiel and Ethan started conversing and would laugh every now and then. Really? I'm funnier than Kiel. Ezekiel made his way into their hearts pretty easily. I really don't know why. He's just a piece of shit like everyone else.
"Ellie, baby! I made tea for you!" Tatiana screamed excitedly. Oh my god, tea?! She didn't have to take so much trouble for me. "It'll be really amazing when you drink it. I've mixed a lot of love in it," she grinned.
Mixed love?
People like her are the reason people like me need alcohol.
"It's good," I said after taking a sip. Please, my pee may taste better than this. Cara walked in and sneaked a look at me. I smirked. She has no idea how to be subtle with the flirty glances.
The moment I met her gaze, I learnt her secret. She was her. Her soul but another body. If she thinks she can play me, she's in for a surprise. I reached out for a cup of coffee and at the same time Ezekiel did. "You wanted it?" Ezekiel asked.
"Sure," I smirked. He rolled his eyes. "I was asking Cara. Help yourself, brother," he replied. I chuckled. "You've always had the habit of stealing what's mine, brother," I taunted. His eyes were alert as they searched for something in my eyes. Something like the truth.
That's one of the many things I'm good at hiding. Imani gave me my cup of coffee and smiled seductively. I snatched it and looked away. I like my coffee just like I am- dark, bitter and too hot to handle.
It felt good when it burned my tongue. I gulped down the entire glass and sighed. "I have something to say," I spoke with authority. Everyone turned to look at me, giving me all their attention. I sighed, I have to do this.
I cleared my throat and got down on one knee in front of Tatiana. She squealed and looked at everyone. Always the attention seeker. I closed my eyes and pictured Milan in her place. "Marry me," I said.
"Yes, I will!" She giggled. I chuckled at her obliviousness. She thought I was asking her? I slid the platinum ring on her finger and looked at Cara. The moment our gazes met, she turned away and left. She was crying.
"Excuse me," I got up and walked out.
Father wouldn't be glad about my decision to marry Tatiana but I wanted to. I wanted her to stop me. I followed Cara's scent to the balcony. "Don't jump," I teased with a smirk. She looked at me and sighed.
I walked over to her and wiped the tears away. They were like small little precious pearls. "Aren't you happy for me?" I asked innocently. She looked at me and forced a smile on her tear-stained face. "Congrats, Alpha," she muttered, her eyes till not meeting mine.
"You don't look happy," I stated with a grin. "Come on baby, just say it," I whispered huskily. Her eyes widened and she pushed me away. "Stay away from me." Saying that, she attempted to run away but my sharp voice stopped her.
"There was once a girl named Milan," I spoke. She immediately froze in her tracks but didn't dare turn. "A prince met her. Fell in love with her and wanted to marry him. However, the day he was going to propose to her, she faked her death. She betrayed him," I whispered. My voice going lower and lower as I neared her shaking form.
"It's not like that," she whispered. She knew that I knew. "Do you know it feels to be stabbed, Cara?" I hissed. My grip on her wrist tightened. "Or should I say Milan?" I chuckled humourlessly.
She looked at me fearlessly. "How do you know this?" She asked. I could see past her brave façade. She was never fond of direct confrontations. Hell, she'd get married online rather than in front of people if it was up to her.
Humans, after all, are slaves of modern tech.
I smirked. "Magic isn't new to me, love. I know a liar when I see one. You see, the moment we met, I felt my mate. I thought you knew her whereabouts but yesterday, my doubts got cleared," I said.
She was just staring at me blankly. Ah, not very smart, are we? "You manipulated your appearance. You were an illusion of Milan but you were still in Cara's body. Now I'm going to go see my fiancé. Toodles!" I grinned and walked out smugly.
"Don't!" She called out. I smirked. It was all going just as I had planned. She'll give in, she always does. I turned and raised an eyebrow. I knew what she wanted. I just wanted to hear it from her mouth.
"Don't marry her," she threatened.
I laughed. This woman is in no position to threaten me. "Or what? Will you fake your death? Oh wait, you already did that!" I taunted. She chuckled playfully and shook her head, coming closer to me and wrapping her hands around my neck.
"Because, Elliot Gabriel, I'm the rightful queen," she said with a confident voice. I smirked inwardly. That's my girl. She looked at me reluctantly and sighed. "As long as your mate is alive, it's a felony to marry someone else. I play by the rules, Elliot," she said.
Fuck, I hate when she's right. "I have a deal to propose," I smirked. I never lose. If I want something, I get it. No matter what it costs. She looked at me in confusion. I chuckled. Some habits just never go away. She still frowns and looks at me with those Bambi eyes in confusion while biting her lip.
"I'm listening," she spoke softly. She's twisting her hair nervously. Good, I still have that same effect on her.
"We work undercover. Tatiana's my fiancé and Adrian's your mate, to the world and everyone in the castle. Including my brother. The letters that you found in my room were from someone special in my past. Nothing to worry about," I assured.
Her eyes widened. "You knew?" She asked in disbelief. "I'm The King, baby. You may have tricked me but I will always be one step ahead of you. Always. My brother may have the power but me, I have intelligence. Work with me. We'll find your killer together."
I'd been working on the case since forever but there weren't many leads to follow until Milan showed up in my life again. "Fine. What do you want in return?" She asked. She looked away so she could hide that smile from me. I smiled thinking about how she always tried to hide her smile so I'd think she's still pissed at me.
"Promise me something," I said.
"Promise you what?"
I smiled sincerely and got down on my knee. As a kid I dreamt of becoming filthy rich and having the world at my feet. Meeting this woman, I realised that life meant more than just survival. It meant fighting for what you want.
"Promise me that one day, you'll officially be my Queen. Promise me that you'll marry me when everything's over."
