Where It all Began

Class was soon over and I sluggishly dragged my feet ,which were cramped due to the extended lecture, to the school's campus. While exiting the grounds, a conversation from some gossiping students caught my attention and my ears perked up with interest.

"Did you hear about the recent murders in our neighborhood?"

"Yeah, the results were similar to the previous attacks that occurred 10 years ago. All the victims were all stabbed directly near the larynx and a scar carved on their foreheads?"

"They probably were killed by the same murderer. I still can't believe the police can't track the culprit though."

"As always, something abnormal and extreme pops up and the police just hid their tails between their legs. They're too scared, I am scared. What if I'm the next victim?"

I sighed as I halted eavesdropping. Listening to their discourse might trigger my trauma. It was too late since flashbacks from years ago started to flood into my memories.

--------

I reached for the door with an exicted smile plastered across my face. It was my birthday and I was eager for the present that my family planned for me. Slowy, I creaked the door open, waiting for the surprise. Instead of a belated party that I was anxiously hoping for, there I discovered blood splattered across the room. My eyes widened when I analyzed the corspes laying on floor were none other than my parents.
There both received deep wounds on their necks and a scar carved by a sharp object, on their foreheads. They laid there breathless and I qiuckly dialed the police. This overwhelming incident was so astoning that tears failed to form as shock took over grief.

--------

I snapped back out of my memories when I had reached home. Living in solitude had became easy over the past years of isolation. My mind was already adapted to it, the emptiness and silence that fills the whole house, that fills my life.

-----

The next day, as usual, I would walk to school with my childhood friend, Xu Minghao, as he patiently waited for me in front near the doorstep. Our ordinary conversations were nonetheless, simple and temporary just to waste time until we arrive to school.

Today, this red head seems concerned and anxious. These certain days were when he became restless and fidgety, as if he had done something wrong; yet, he never bothered to discuss personal matters with me. This behavior of his acted up recently; nevertheless, I gave him privacy and never asked.

His frown then switched into a beaming smile as he offered one side of an earplug. He scrolled through his playlist and played a song, probably to shake off his awkward, gloomy state earlier.

"What is this?"

"Find Me by Pentagon."

"No I meant, why the change of mood?"

"I just felt like it."

We finally reached school as we entered the same class together. Later the teacher entered, announcing a transfer student whose name was Wen Junhui. He seemed mysterious yet friendly, and he occupied a seat beside me whilst lesson continued. He caught my gaze and beamed a joyous smile, but it felt cynical somehow.

----

"I don't like that guy."

It was Minghao and he was somehow, slightly suspicious with the transfer student.

"He acts playful and all but somethings tells me that it's fishy."

As he was talking, we recognized Junhui with a mysterious person, who had his face hidden, near the lockers. His usual playful aura changed to something agonizing while he was conversing with this stranger. Suddenly his eyes met mine and it widened and panicked, as he quickly rushed away from the scene and so did the eerie man.

"That seemed really suspicious."
