Dan's POV
I dashed to the source of screaming. What the hell? I wasn't necessarily confused but then again, I don't really know what I was. The screaming died down to agonised moans.
There were...bodies? They were a mangled bunch of limbs strewn together to form a human figure. A dark red with tinged if black here and there covered...well, everything really. Their hair, what was left of it, was matted. To say the least, they hardly looked alive. There were wheeled past the people who had gathered around the gate.
I was about to walk off and just accept that this is my life now but the second victim, I have no idea how I even picked it up considering the fact the injured man was in tatters, resembled Phil in some sense. His eyes were almost the same colour but no one could match Phil's stunning radioactive eyes. No one.
The man who lay flat on the stretcher glanced at me briefly and I tore my eyes away from his disfigured state. He wasn't Phil. I knew that. He just...reminded me of him. That man reminded me of the boy I knew back home. The boy I left. The boy I was certain I was in love with. He was the boy I needed to get home to. From here on out, I'm going to try my very best to pay attention in training, I'm going to eat enough and drink plenty of water, I'm going to stay alive for Phil. I will not be a body that lays flat on a stretcher soon to be forgotten by those who once cared about me. "I can do this." I whispered.
Chris came up behind me soon after everyone but me had left the front entrance, placing a hand softly on my shoulder, trying not to startle me. I jumped slightly, more like shifting my body weight to the tips of my toes. "Hey mate. Training in ten." He spoke softly, calmly. I turned my head around to face him. A genuine smile crept onto his face, it was small but it gave me hope that maybe not all things have to be miserable in a place like this.
"Right, training. Yeah, okay. Chris?" It was probably going to make no sense to him but I had to say it now whilst I had the chance.
"Yeah?" He looked at me, eyebrows knitted.
"Thank you." A grin tugged at the corners of my lips. With that I walked past Chris and yelled over my shoulder, "Don't we have training to get to?" I heard him laugh from behind me followed by him jogging to catch up to me.Chris was blabbering on about something but only one thing was on my mind. I had to focus in training, it keeps me alive. Being alive means going home. Going home means holding Phil. Holding Phil means happiness and security.
I can do this.
Alrighty quick A/N. I apologise for the short chapter but that's all I could really get down without dragging it on for too long you know? I hope it's okay and I hope everyone is having an amazing day or night or evening or some time of day. By the way!! Please feel free to comment about anything. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this story. Question: what should the next chapter be? Dan's POV or Phil's? Let me know!
Thanks so much for reading and I'll see you guys in the next chapter! <3
