Chapter 17

I was sitting in the van feeling numb . How did this happen . Ghastly was gone . Skulduggery phone rang and he answer . He sweared and hung up . ' the elders are dead , betrayed by tomb '

i stared shocked ' that son of a bitch , i knew something was wrong about him , god , dam it .

they stared at me . But skulduggery was the most shocked . ' theres no way any of us could have known ' I just nodded and tried to control my emotions i noticed the growing flame in my fist . I focused with it and exstingused it .

Tantih spoke up ' we are doomed its over skulduggery we cant fight anymore , its over maybe you want to die but i am sure valkerye or hex and i dont want to '

i heard everyone shout and i felt like crying but that was Alexa speaking . Alexa died the day gordon did . Hex has being born ' hey , if we fight each other , how the hell can we fight serpine , he may be stronger than us but he knows that , he may have killed the elders but the fights never lost until we stop fighting and if we stop fighting everything that has happened will have being for nothing , I am not letting serpine get away with what he has done . You guys can stop fighting , i dont care i will go on and give it my best shot . Because if i dont i am no better than him and besides whatever he is after it could be worse than death . ' i spoke my voice was strong and fierce but my magic stayed in check ' if skulduggery will take me , ill stick with him ' 

I saw him nod and i smiled at him . I was scared and terrified but i knew that Tanith needed someone else to be brave  .Apart from skulduggery . Then nodded they where in . I clicked my fingurs and a flame grew . I saw skulduggery and i knew he was smiling but what they didnt know was , I wasnt controlling the magic , my emotions where but i directed my anger so i could use it rather than it using me .

' serpine is after something anyone guess what it is '

i though quietly and Valkerye guessed when she siad book of names i snapped into it. Shit , i had being warned but i couldnt have known or could i have .

We arrived at the santuary . I walked in beside tanith . Hollow men appeared and i winced , the smell would kill me faster than they did . Tanith launched into action and so did the others but i was more focused on the book , they could handle the hollow men . I couldnt handle serpine alone but i could stall him .I went towards the entrace and saw dead cleavers . I winced some of them had being tortured by the red hand . I knew how it felt . I felt the tears roll down my face but i made myself go on . I stopped when i saw the white cleaver ' shit i forgot about you '

he launched at me but i stepped to the side and tripped him up . He was up and he striked at me cutting my arm , i hissed and backstepped trying to remember how tanith does it but i was way more clumsy than her . I screamed for help knowing that i couldnt take him down . He striked at me and i advoided that but i fell into his trap he fliped me and i landed painfully on my bank , i cried out in pain . I rolled out of the way just before he crashed down his weapon where my head had being . I took the chance to leap onto his back . I locked my arms around his neck in a choke hold . Holding on for my life , he began to sway . Tantih rushed in and leaped at the white cleaver , i jumped off , he began to fight the cleaver and skulduggery ran in . Tanith shouted ' go stop serpine ' i ran off to the book of names . I saw serpine turn tomb to dust and he tried to get the book of names . I focused on it and used the air to make it fly towards me . i stood up and ducked as he fired at me

' you stupid child '

' you wont win this serpine '

 ' whos going to stop me you '

' no him ' i pointed to skulduggery he sent him flying back.I got the book of names serpine was locked in a battle

Suddenly I heard skulduggery shout of warning but I was too late.  Something stabbed through my back and I fell to the ground struggling to breath.  Painfully I pulled out the small dagger and turned so I could see what was going on.  I heard Val scream my name and I put up my hand to let her know I was still alive. Serpine knocked skulduggery into the wall and I saw him reaching for book.  I gasped and tried to reach out,  it was about to rise when serpine grabbed it. " my dear you are more annoying that I ever imagined "

He pointed his hand at me and I screamed.I curled up clenching my fists.  My magic spun out of control,  flames morphing around me.Serine gasped and I struggled to block him. I felt a last wave of pain crush me.I went limp. 

General pov

when Val saw hex go limp she jumped up and ran at serpine but she.saw too late a table flying at her. She fell to the ground clutching her broken leg.  Skulduggery reappeared and when serpine went to attack him with the staff.  he grabbed the book and it destroyed it.  serpine screamed in a rage. Serpine ordered the white cleaver to attack but it walked away.

" give up serpine you have lost "

he raised his hand and pointed at Val

" serpine don't "

Val screamed.  Skulduggery grabbed the staff and pointed it at serpine. Serine turned to dust.
