The dark experiment (#Wattys2017)

chapter 6

All I could see was Sian's death repeating itself over and over like a loop in my head. It was like time itself stopped and I was death watching the scene unfold before me yet there was nothing I could do. I just stood and watched waiting for the bullet to engulf her body and take her away, her face scrunching up and looking down as the red liquid came pouring out, watching her realise that this is where the line ends.

Well let me tell you the line will not end her today, not while I'm still breathing. 

"aww, look at you shaking. What don't tell me your upset about a girl"

"A FRIEND, something I haven't had in a long while and I'm not letting you take that away from me"

"oh, chicken I already have" 

"but at least you won't be hurting anyone else"

"I beg to....."

He forgot I had the small knife in my hands and threw it with such force that it landed smack bang in the middle of his forehead the small handle hanging out. Bullseye. I ran to sian she was still alive but her breaths were slow and weak I had to work fast. I carefully undid her chains and placed her on the ground.

"I'm going to get some stuff to help stop the bleeding and then we're going to take you home"

She nodded her head but her movements were barely noticeable.  Death was already claiming her. I ran into a kitchen and grabbed scissors and paper towels.

"This is going to hurt but I need to pull the bullet out otherwise it will not heal properly" She nodded her head again I got her to bite on the paper towels as I pulled the small piece of metal from her body that was holding her captive, her screams were the only thing filling the room but there was nothing I could do to ease the pain. I could fix her up, I did have medical training but I didn't have the tools I needed here to help her.

Wait.

Flashback

It was the fifth year of my training,I walked out of my cell and looked around the guard were already afraid of me. But it made me feel good knowing that, I was not weak.

"right Athena, you know your body heals very fast but you can also transfer some of that energy to others to help them. Not much to fully heal them but enough to stabilise them if needed"

Flashback ends.

I grabbed the scissors and cut a large cut in my arm, I could now control this energy If I needed to be fixed fast then I would heal straight away but if I had time I would let it heal slow so I would feel more human. More alive. I placed my hand on Sian's wound and closed my eyes. I thought of the cut healing and then travelling to Sian's body to heal her, I felt a slight tingle and opened my eyes I had healed myself but not sian.

"come on work. Heal her"

"are...are you...crying"

I wiped my eyes and noticed a single tear had escaped my eye, it was only one but it was a start.

"Yeah, but that's why you must live because you make me feel human,  your giving me my emotions back. I've learnt loads from you.  Plus, your the major part in our plan. You can't leave now"

I felt a slight tingle again and looked down at my arms a green mist of energy floated from me to her. The large wound in her chest slowly closing up so no more blood could leave. 

"You ok? That's never worked before, last time I tried the guy died"

"I'm fine thanks. Eh, maybe you didn't like the guy"

I laughed, the wound had not full y healed but she would survive, but I still needed to get her home so she could heal fully.

"You can take my powers"

"what?"

"like kyle said,  your the most powerful out of all of us. Our powers will not work on you and you can use our powers"

"come here" She said as she grabbed my head with both her hands and closed her eyes.

"You need to feel the power, allow it to become you" I closed my eyes too and thought about being an animal I felt a cold shiver and thought about being a Wolf. I opened my eyes and they had changed blood red.

"the first change always hurts I'm afraid" 

I felt my boned cracking and shifting into place but there was no pain. I haven't mastered that emotion yet I only know anger. My skin was replaced by white fur and instead of hands and feet were paws. I helped her onto my back and ran faster than I have ever ran before. Being an animal I felt free, the wind hitting against my fur. The ground beneath my paws was what a normal person would call amazing.

"it's weird" I forgot we could communicate by thought and was startled for a moment.

"what is?"

"your Wolf it's white with a black mark on your forehead"

"why? Is your Wolf not the same?"

"no, it's just plain black meaning I'm mischievous and naughty. But you" 

"what does it mean.  Maybe it's because there your powers and I'm just borrowing them in a way" 

"no, your color of Wolf means your pure at heart"

"I'm far from pure, I've killed"

"your mind and body is far from pure yes but your heart and soul will always be pure"

"what about the black mark on my forehead?"

"means your a leader. You are the one who will protect us. Like you did today for me"

After our little talk she leaned down on my back and fell fast asleep.  We were near out home.
Home.
I've never thought of anything being my home yet here I was. As I got closer to the house I heard the thoughts of everyone else. "where are they?" "I hope there not hurt" I walked into the room everyone gasped while I stood proud. 

I was ready to fight for them.

I was ready to be there leader.
