Gaze Meadow's POV

I stand in the training lobby with all the other tributes, waiting for Shayla to arrive and instruct us what to do. We have another test today and then we get whole day, training any skills we wish. I sigh, unpatiently.

Shayla ambles in and I stand straight.

"Good morning tributes. I hope you all slept well. Please follow me." Shayla says. We all trail behind her as she walks through a door.

Shayla stands on the same podium. Today however she looks a little different. Instead of her natural olive coloured skin, it has make up plastered all over it. Maybe she's more of a Capitol citizen than I thought.

"Hello Tributes, today we will be doing a games of hide and seek. However this is no ordinary game of hide and seek. Mutts will be seeking you. Don't worry though, you will only receive an electric shock when they reach you. They will not hurt you at all. Once you get an electric shock (symbolising a mutt has found you) you will be eliminated. The last person to be found wins!" Shayla explains to us.

I look around at the other tributes; some are looking scared, excited or confused. I am a mixture of all the feelings. Anyhow I follow Shayla and the rest of the tributes into another room, with 24 doors.

"In a minute all of you will go into a separate door and be delivered into the area where you will be playing hide and seek." Shayla announces.

I open the door and find myself in a small, plain room. Stairs are placed in the middle of the room, leading to a bright light. I wonder if I should climb up them yet. My thoughts are answered as the voice of Shayla blares through the room.

"Please climb up the stairs," Shayla says. Obdiently, I do so.

I put a hand over my eyes as a bright light shines into my eyes. Dotted around me are the other tributes. We are placed in a sparse forest, but dotted between the thin trees are plenty of places to hide. It's almost like we are already in the hunger games. However I am reassured that nothing bad will happen to us. They can't injure tributes before they go in the games. In the Capitol that would be a catastrophe.

It is truly like we are in the hunger games. A timer sits in the middle of the clearing, ticking down the seconds until the game begins. I try to step forward, to see what happens. However a invisible force pushes me back. I feel like I am trapped in a cage.

The timer counts down the last five seconds painfully slow. Then we're free. I pace back and forth, pondering where to go. I hear a booming voice echoing around me, counting down from one hundred.

I watch as the other tributes scramble into different places. I randomly dash towards the west side of the area. All around me are tall, spindly trees looming over me. My eyes dart around, looking for a place to hide. Fifty seconds the robotic voice says. I lurch forwards. About twenty metres away I spot a cave. I decide to head there.

In the distant I see miniature figures running through the forest, aimlessly. I curse as a few are heading my direction. As I get closer to the cave, I notice there is a field of large rocks sat behind it. I realise the cave is too much of a predictable place to hide so I climb over it and towards the rocks.

I find a slot between two rocks and sit myself in it. I push myself into the rock, trying to conceal myself as much as possible. Now I am basically sat under the rock. Through my blurred vision I see a young girl climb into the cave, I recognise her as one of the twins.

I hear the voice counting down from ten. I hold my breath, waiting anxiously for the monstrous creatures to be unleashed. Although the mutations cannot hurt you in this circumstance it is still terrifying that a creature is hunting for your blood. I can't imagine how frightening it will be in the arena.

A horn blows as the creatures are unleashed. I hear a group of excited howls and I shudder with fright. Pounding footsteps roam the area with the occasional scream of the poor tributes who have been found.

I sliver even further back into the rock as I hear the girl who entered the cave's shrill scream. Through squinted eyes I see all types of animals sprinting viciously, in all directions.

Soon after the young girl screamed a invisible force lifts her out of the cave. Her eyes are wide with fright and her hair is slightly static, probably from the electric shock the animals gave her.

My eyes dart off the girl as the creatures's heavy footsteps pound on top of the boulder I am hiding used. I exhale as I realise they haven't noticed me.

My ears perk up as I hear see nearly all the tributes being picked up. The creatures must have split up. This didn't take as long as I thought it would!

I do a few sums in my head and realise that there is only two competitors left. Maybe I can win this, I always get found last when I play with my siblings. With my siblings. Not creatures who want to bathe in your blood!

I sigh and shut my eyes, briefly. I open my eyes as I hear a horrifying howl. In the distance I see a tiger bare his teeth at the boy from district one. He screams a high-pitched scream. A few seconds later the boy is lifted into the air.

One left. One more obstacle until I win. Until I get the thousands of sponsors that man save my life.

I squint ahead of me. The animals seem to have created a circle in the middle of the area. Then they split in half. One half of the pack race towards the east side of the area and the others towards the west. Towards me. They're coming for me.

I swallow and hope the other person is not as well hidden as I am. I push myself back into the boulder as far as I can. However the animals seem to be sprinting straight towards me. It's as if they can sniff me out. Actually, they probably can.

Closer and closer. I keep telling myself that they won't hurt me, they won't. However any uh,am being would be petrified like me if a pack of creatures, with razor sharp teeth are sprinting towards you.

I blink my eyes, making sure what I can see is real. The animals have stopped. It's like a dream come true, they disappear into the ground. I breathe out deeply, they were only a few meters away from me! Why? Why did they stop? Isn't their goal to find me?

My questions are answered as I see the girl from district four being lifted into the sky, her red locks flying out behind her. Have I won?

I am lifted out of my hiding place as a invisible force drags me upwards. I won. Which means that I will get sponsors, a higher training score. This could be life-saving.
